I wish I had kids that I could follow in high school sports but I don't so each year I choose a team to follow. Early on Ludlow was fun and exciting to watch but unfortunately they just could not play with the bigger 9th region teams. If you believe winning isn't everything then your blind. Ask Highlands people or CovCath or Notre Dame people about losing. Ask UK fans about losing. If the girl did something wrong have her clean the locker room, run laps or something but If you and other Ludlow people are ok with losing then sit your players.

 

You are right go ask Highlands, Covcath, or Notre same coaches what their policy is if a player has some kind of conduct problem how they deal with it. Or ask them if they still start a player the same week if they missed practices that week. Please go ask them if that happened if they still will say its ok we have a game we need to win this week so you will still start and play like normal. So you can ask them or I can tell you what happens at those programs. That player wouldn't start and other talented players would start getting the chance to start. Hence the reason why you Dont see many players get in trouble for conduct or missing practices, because they know they won't play and could lose their spot completely. That's how you build a program, it doesn't matter if its your best or worst player you have to be consistent with it. This way the younger players coming up see that and no how things work and you set a culture of behavior properly and always being at practices if you want to play. When you have that culture established then you Dont have those problems as much.

 

So just because its a small school and it hurts more than a big school when they sit a player. It is something you have to do. Its not about winning a game its about making a winning program. So thank you for bringing up those programs to show how you are still wrong in what you said.

Can someone tell me what the girl did wrong. Then maybe I will change my tune but until then stop crying because someone talked negatively about the basket program. I wonder if other players were treated the same way. I believe Wofford got a technical in the Dayton game that almost cost Ludlow big time. To me that is a CONDUCT issue. Did she sit the next game. I don't think so. My guess is the rules are not the same for all. So based on what you say the culture message sent is some can do whatever with no punishment and others are treated different. Please don't tell me I don't know what the Technical was for because I don't know why Warndorf sat either.

You did a great job at winning Division 3. I believe you were 8-0. Bellevue had 2 chances and Dayton one to beat you. You out coached Bellevue in both games. That's why you won. I thought you could have done better against Dayton. Just my thoughts. As a coach I hope you know that you will always be second guessed by players, parents & fans. Just part of the job. I touted your team all year. Bottom line it is District time. Your team stunk and was not ready to play against Dixie. Call me what you want but just BEAT DIXIE.

See that that is what you just Dont understand. If you truly Dont know why she was sat when I bet you there was one of the two reasons I stated because those are the main two reasons people get sat. Then how do you find it right to get on here and complain about it if you don't know.so if you do know please share, then if it is not a good reason maybe I would agree with you because I Dont know either. I just know the reasons a person typically is sat. So Dont you see how silly you sound by making a huge deal out of it if you have no idea?

 

Also question as to why you just wrote a letter to the coach? I have never coached a basketball game in my life and only seen a couple Ludlow games this year. However I do know how a good program should be ran. For you to basically flat out say it doesn't matter what a person does if its a winnable game that person should play is just flat out wrong. Then your whole posting of CovCath and those schools goes against what you said because those programs would sit people to for reasons I listed too. I have no problem if you disagree with a game plan for a game or strategy during a game because that's stuff you see first hand. However when you criticize something and make as big of a deal about something like you did in this thread it is wrong. Especially since you even admitted you have no idea on this. Can't complain about a kid not playing if you Dont know. If you only wondered why she didn't play and left it at that then its no problem. That's a fair question.

So the player had missed several days of school and practices while sick? Definitely sounds like a fair reason why someone may not start and play less than normal. Which is why someone should know the reason for someone not playing before complaining. So thanks for sharing I was wondering what the reason was and figured it was something like that.

Futurecoach said that discipline & culture were what Ludlow was promoting. I then said the Technical could have used discipline, make a point. You get a technical, you sit.(DISCIPLINE).

Absolutely, to each coach goes their right to have their own strategy on how they want to approach it. And I do apologize if I misinterpreted your earlier post about "crying".

Notice how in other post in games this year not many people had much to say when you did criticize things, because people do have their own opinion which I respect. It was just silly for you to make as big of a deal out of a player not starting, when as you said you had no idea why she didn't start. As Panther8404 shared there obviously was a good reason for why she didn't start because she was sick and her being sick made her miss practices. Other than this issue, I really have had no problem with what you have shared this year good or bad about the Ludlow program because it is just an opinion. Which I have enjoyed getting to read your post because it keeps me up to date on how the Ludlow teams are doing. However just in this case it was an opinion that was formed without reason, since as you admitted you had no idea why. Which is why it is silly to make as big of a deal out it as you did when you didn't have any idea as to why until a few minutes ago.

 

Which I hope you do still follow Ludlow next year though. :thumb:

lets get a couple more wins this year. High School basketball is awesome and people just don't realize what we have here in Northern KY. Anything I have said are my opinions good or bad. I chimed in on St Henry early this year because I thought fans were being unfair to their coach. Good or bad I say my peace. I guess I will never understand or agree with coaches. Maybe I ask or say things parents are afraid to say. It is easy for me because I have no kids involved. Just a FAN.

This has gotten way out of hand I as well am a graduate of Ludlow playing sports there and learning the disiplinary actions that take place, if you miss practice you don't start unless for a dr visit or school work. As far as being sick all week and then showing up on game day why should she start? Yes she's a great player yes she makes the team better but why diciplin the other girls who where at practice everyday and filled in and got the reps? Does this Newport game mean anything to Ludlow? For all I cared about when I was there for my 4 years was the conference games district games and then after that all the other games win or lose didn't matter win or lose. I'm sure many other teams and people feel the same way, being 4-0 in distract play and losing every other game in the season is a pretty good season for most teams going into districts and region, considering the ultimate goal is state! Panthar you are making it very clear you didn't just choose Ludlow as a team to follow not by coming out and saying it but by what you know more then most do who just happen to follow the team this year!

 

As for the comment about big games with Bellevue and Dayton when I played no matter what the game meant whether it be all a or just another game if it was a conference opponent it was counted as a conference game so if it's still done the same way Bellevue had there chance twice and Dayton as well with a make up game Ludlow took care of business when they needed to and therefor are conference champs.

I believe a win over Newport would have been a step in the right direction for Ludlow. Winning division 3 is awesome but until small schools beat the bigger schools it is just small schools. Maybe this is a step in the right direction for Ludlow. 8-0 in Division 3. The problem I see is that so many schools start underclassmen just as Ludlow. Ludlow should win Division 3 again next year but what about beating Lloyd, Newport, St Henry or some other bigger schools. Don't be happy with winning just D-3.

As stated in the thread before it's not all about winning and losing it's about teaching and coaching life lessons not just to one player but the entire team. Yes Ludlow is having a great season but don't change things for one player because you might get another win. As for beating a big school your argument is invalid Newport is by the grit of there teeth still considered 2a with there student population so not much of a BIG school kinda game!
