Bowling Green Purples; Can they get back to the Carpet?

Featured Replies

Well, most HS football fans that don't live in Graves County would have thought the Purples would have gotten their 4th ring in 4 years. The old saying is true, "That's why they play the game." Can 2015 be a comeback to the state finals for the Purples?

The short answer is yes but there are some pretty large holes to fill. Hurdle #1: The Defensive Line. You don't just replace arguably the best D - line in the state (ask St. X). Some younger kids have 6 months to bust their hump in the weight room. To the Purples advantage, Coach Wallace has one of the best, if not the best coaching staffs in the Commonwealth. The coaches will have the game plan, the kids are just going to have to be a unit that will work together to get the job done.

Hurdle #2: QB Clark Payne will have a lot of pressure on him. Rewind 2 years ago. Devin Hayes was one of the state's top QBs in the past several years for Ky. Football (let his stats talk to the naysayers). When he left, no one really had confidence in Campbell Gott, other than Campbell and his coaching staff. When he beat Lexington Catholic last year his confidence went through the roof. He ended up having a great season, with really only 1 bad game (aka Graves County). Clark Payne knows that Gott stepped up to the plate now he has to. Word on Street is he is a very accurate thrower. Purple Nation is rooting for you Clark, you can do it.

Great News. In my humble yet accurate opinion the Purples return some awesome running backs. They will be top 2 or 3 backs in the state. Even if our O Line struggles a bit, I feel with our RBs they will win us 7 or 8 regular season games by themselves. I would think Coach Wallace (who has forgotten about more football than I'll ever know) will let his running game outweigh the pass this upcoming season.

I said it last year and I will say it again. If you are going to beat the Purples you have this upcoming season and possibly the next to do so. This August the incoming freshman will be on Rockingham Way. Not many teams will want anything to do with them. Big, fast and strong. When these kids are Sophomores through Seniors I'm predicting an another run. I can see the smirks on Highland fans faces. Time will tell.

Yes Purples have some work to do to make it back to WKU but I like our chances and I certainly like our future! When little Vito takes the field (current 7th grader) the outcome for the opponents don't look so hot.

See you in August!

It sure ain't. I had no desire for the rest of the season after that loss.

I was there, it's been more than 2 months ago, and I still can't believe it. Hard to get over.
