The 12th Region looked really strong this past week with big victories over high quality, out of region competition. Southwestern gets a nice win over state ranked #2 Knott County Central and Wayne County gets the win over Scott County in the Jock Sutherland Classic. Plus, Lincoln County played a very close game against #5 Taylor County but came up just short of victory. The rest of the state should take note, the 12th Region will be a very tough out in March.

12th Region Notes:

 

-The 12th Region gets a tough draw in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament in March. The winner of the 12th Region will play the winner of the 11th Region. A possible match-up with the always tough 7th Region looms for the victor in the quarter finals.

 

-Jacob Conway continues to put up numbers worthy of player of the year honors as he scored 34 points and had 16 rebounds in the Patriots win over Southwestern. He then scores 28 and had 10 boards in their win over Garrard County and finishes the week with 22 and 14 in their loss to Taylor County. Nice week for Conway.

 

-Congratulations to Sean Ross and Blake Burton. Both of them entered the 1000 point club at Pulaski County this season and were recognized last Friday night.

 

-Jeremiah Bell’s 26 points, 9 rebounds and Hagen Tyler’s 15 points, 6 rebounds carry Boyle County in an overtime victory against West Jessamine. Versus Danville both Bell and Tyler had double-doubles with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 26 points, 11 rebounds respectively. Colton Elkins also had a double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds in the win over Danville.

 

-A coin flip decided the match-ups in the 47th District Tournament. Pulaski County will face Rockcastle County and Somerset will play Casey County.

 

-Trey Blevins made 6 three point baskets while tallying 24 points in Wayne County’s 68-67 victory over Scott County in the Jock Sutherland Classic. He also scored 22 points in the Cardinals win over Clay County and 18 in the win over McCreary Central. Teammate Nick Gillespie had a good week on the boards average 11.66 rebounds in the 3 wins for the Cardinals this past week.

 

-Southwestern had a very big win over the #2 team in the state Knott County Central 71-68. Five Warrior players were in double digits: Adam Isaacs 17, Dylan Gaskins 12, Payton Gover 12, Danny Butt 11, and Stephen Fitzgerald 11. These same five all had double digit scoring in the win over Casey County and four of the five were in double digits in the loss to Lincoln County. As one can see this Southwestern team is very balanced on offense.

 

-Riley Hall scores 34 points for Pulaski County in their loss to Mercer County. Sean Ross also puts in a 34 point performance in the Maroons win over Danville.

 

-Mercer County Freshman Trevon Faulkner had another big night scoring 23 points, while shooting 7-7 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line, along with 5 rebounds in their win over Pulaski County.

 

-David McCorvey Scored 21 points while shooting 70% from the field in West Jessamine’s win over East Jessamine. Brooks Ely also added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Colts.

 

-McCreary Central has gotten a lot of productivity from Freshmen Hunter Jones and Brandon Troxtle this year. They have helped the Raiders to a 12-13 record thus far, improving on last year’s one win season.

I forgot to mention some really good games are set for this week. Boyle County travels to Southwestern tonight and Mercer County plays Lincoln County.

Friday Lincoln County and Danville play each other to close out the regular season district matchups, Wayne County travels to West Jessamine, Boyle County goes to South Oldham, and Pulaski County and Southwestern square off in a big cross town rivalry.

Saturday brings a matchup between two ranked opponents as Knott County Central travels to Lincoln County.

I've heard common region opponents, common opponents and coin flip. I have no clue.
