KHSAA has instituted a new requirement for post-season eligibility. Umpires are now required to attend this camp every 4 years to be eligible to work Region or State Tournaments. Held at a different region site each year, and only 1 annually.

 

Interested in thoughts on this.

Registration for the 2015 KHSAA Softball Umpires Advanced Camp is now open. This camp must be attended once every four years to be eligible for assignment to umpire region or state tournaments.

8:00-8:30 a.m. – Registration

8:30-9:00 a.m. – Welcome, Introductions, Review Agenda

9:00-9:15 a.m. – KHSAA Assistant Commissioner Darren Bilberry

9:15-12:00 p.m. – Classroom Instruction

12:00-1:00 p.m. – Lunch on your own

1:15-2:15 p.m. – Plate Work

2:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Base Work

3:30-4:30 p.m. – 3 person mechanics / Q&A

 

You will need to bring all your plate gear. Everyone attending camp is required to be in approved KHSAA Umpire’s uniform.

It as been in place, but now a change in format. A pay to participate requirement, full uniform requirement and I'm pretty sure a checklist or two throughout the day.

 

Pretty significant change in format given that it is going to cost what amounts to a game check for the potential chance to do post season. (Lots of questions floating about paying to attend)

 

It is my sincere hope that this format is used to identify issues that may or may not exist with umpires, still not sure how they go about doing anything with the information that could be collected.

But if the best doesn't attend this camp, no matter how good they are, they won't get a post season game. Period.

Nah….parking lot passes reserved for the nicest of fans.

Most of the umps that need training will not go to the camp because they are inexperienced and know they will not be working region or state tournaments.

 

Very few inexperienced umps will go just to learn about umpiring; most of those who do go will have tons of experience and only be going because it is a requirement to be eligible to work the tournaments.

The KHSAA should strive to improve the product on the field!

- The umpire training should be free and travel expenses reimbursed! Especially after the fiasco at the state tourney last year! Not to mention what a great opportunity to work with the umpires. Maybe even develop some new guys!

 

MOST OF ALL SHOULD THE KHSAA SHOULD WORK ON IMPROVING PLAYING CONDITIONS AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT FOR FAST PITCH SOFTBALL! Absolutely a shame that these young ladies work as hard as any other sport yet there state championship is played on a beer leauge slow pitch softball complex converted for the weekend! Dirt infield extends out to where outfielders are often standing on the dirt. A temporary fence is absurd!

Kind of what bluegrass state games does to volleyball. Basically you work the games for free while missing work etc. If not you can't work region or state.

And the little brush to clean the plate aleast one time during the game.
