oldrambler Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 The son of former Ashland Tomcat star Mike Gothard, Mike Taylor Gotthard has signed to play football at Western Ky. University. He is a 6'1", 225lb linebacker. Mike (father) was a standout for the Tomcats in 1974 and he went on to play college football at Vanderbilt. Report says that U.K. offered but only as a preferred walk on (this is the same thing they offered former Raceland star A. Pettry who is now with Ohio State). Gotthard turned down Murray State to attend WKU. Congrats to Gotthard.
WoodyJr Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 CONGRATULATIONS Taylor and big Mike. Boy how we could have used you these last few years  Maybe you'll get to team up with a Tomcat or 2 there. Best wishes Cheers, Woody Jr
Goliath Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I remember Taylor when he was going to elementary school in Ashland. He was always a big, mean kid. I believe Taylor played high school ball down in Georgia didnt he?
oldrambler Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 I remember Taylor when he was going to elementary school in Ashland. He was always a big, mean kid. I believe Taylor played high school ball down in Georgia didnt he? Yes, it was Walton High School, a 5A class school near Atlanta. He was selected to the all Cobb County team and the Marietta Journal all star team. At linebacker he had 126 tackles with 10 behind line of scrimmage - also was a running back and had 429yds. My info came from a good friend that was good friends and a team member of his fathers (Mike) on the Post 76 american legion baseball team. He has been following the Mike's son h.s. career via the i-net from time to time.
Graybeard Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Congratulations to Taylor! I remember him from his days playing on the Ashland Jets JFL team when he was 8 and 9 years old. I'm glad to see him do so well.

Mike (the father) was excellent friends with one of WKU's biggest boosters, a man named Brian Finkbone. Finkbone played baseball with Mike throughout their high school days, and played youth football with Mike as well. Taylor will be a big asset at WKU. Frances
WoodyJr Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 There's nothing like genetics! Yeah, having a mom that was a Bama cheerleader makes quite a difference;) Woody
oldrambler Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 There's nothing like genetics! I know that very well, kick - there has been some of those down here at Raceland through the years as well. The latest was the Lacks kid that recently signed with Campbellsville University for football and was invited to walk on for track there as well.. I think that the Lacks family, including cousins, uncles, nephews and all has had 16 or 17 family members go through the program and every one of them were very productive. I bleed Raceland orange and black but have always admired Ashland's program and what they stand for.

I played a little softball with Kenny Lacks, but I was unaware that he was one of several at Raceland. I think that for it's size, Raceland seems to have turned out an unusually high number of pretty good athletes through the years. Frances

oldrambler Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Signed a scholarship or to walk-on? Scholarship I think.

The Lacks boy that signed scholarship at C-Ville this year was Chris, his dad is Keith Lacks and was a standout football and baseball player at Raceland in the 70's, He was MVP in baseball for his jr. and sr. year with a four year ba of 475 (I think) and All State football (courrier journal) linebacker his senior year. Kenny's boy is Mike, who was the excellent defensive end at Raceland under B.T. Ross in the 80's. Keith played American Legion baseball with M. Gothard in the 70's. Sorry to go on, but I respect the Ashland tradition and appreciate your kind words about Raceland, we feel that we have had a tradition of our own down here.
oldrambler Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Just to clarify Frances, Keith hit .575 his senior year and hit over 400 in three of his four years, freshman year was .370. My own post got me to checking back in some records. He was All State honorable mention in football, not All State. Hey, that was just over 30 yrs. ago - he graduated in 74' and I in 75' - hard to remember some things that far back - lol.
Graybeard Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Signed a scholarship or to walk-on? Full ride scholarship.
