Bishop Brossart 45 Campbell County 44

Final from Alexandria. Pretty sure that final score is right! Left before I could write it down.

Typical Brossart/Campbell game. I heard the same score.

Lady Camels didn't have an answer for Schultz.

Both teams had chances for separation. The Lady Camels led 18-12 in the second quarter only to have the Lady Stangs tie it up at 20s at halftime. Brossart puts up a quick 7 points in the first three minutes of the second half, but are then overtaken by Campbell COunty 33-31 at the end of the third quarter. The final attempt to draw off came from the Lady Camels who owned a five-point 44-39 lead with 1:15 to go in the game, but Emily Schultz took over in the final minute, putting up the final six points of the game, to give the Lady Stangs a 45-44 eleventh hour victory. This was the Brossart gals sixth Crosstown win in the past eight years.

Schultz led all scorers with 14 points, while fighting foul trouble throughout. Sydney Shannon added 10, Abby King 7, and Olivia Nienaber 6.

The Lady Camels were paced by Kylie Kramer with a quiet 10, Taylor Jolly knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for 9, Mackenzie Schwarber aded 8, and Taylor Clos 6.

Both teams hit 7 free-throws - Brossart 7-18, Campbell County 7-11.

The Lady Camels hit on 5 of 19 three-point attempts.

THe Brossart JVs won 32-23 and Campbell annexed the freshmen bout by 13 points.

While I was preparing to head to this game from work my good friend and Bishop Brossert/Campbell County expert (Jim) said this will not be a good game. I diverted to watch CCH win by 30 and we can all see what happened in this game. Thanks JIM. I am taking away your expert card.

A few observations from this one:

1) Brossart guards (Nienaber / Buckingham / King) very nice job handling the Camel pressure.

2) Camels not able to capatilize With Schultz on bench with 2 fouls in 2nd period. With Brossart down 6 - Shannon scores last 6 of half to tie it.

3) Schultz was huge in last minute.

4) Coach Feldman's move to a 3-2 in final 30 seconds created some confusion for Camels.

That is always a fun game to watch and great atmosphere. The Camels are really good. Shots didn't fall for them. They will have a great year.

Congratulations to the Lady Stangs and Coach Feldman on a hard fought win.

Lady Stangs squeaked out a win last night for sure. They could not handle Campbell Co.'s defense. Had a hard time getting the ball down court and Shannon was a non factor inside. Emily Schultz bailed Brossart out in the end, IMO. Can't wait to see the matchup down the road!

Appeared that Shannon was up top guarding Gray majority of game. You are correct.

This was clearly a case of Campbell County being outcoached. A 5 point lead with 1:15 left and CC decides to press Brossart. Brossart's big girls had no trouble breaking the press all night.....many coast to coast layups. CC played right into their hands. Congrats to Brossart!

Ouch!

We didn't press the whole entire 1st half, because 3 of our starters had 3 fouls each. When Brossart made a run early in the 3rd we pressed and got back into the game and took the lead because of our press. lady Camels are not very deep and when we get into foul trouble it's not a good recipe. Girls came out flat and didn't shoot the ball well which is a result of a week and a half layoff since their last game. I hope your not a disgruntled Camel parent venting on BGP? If you are and you feel that strongly about it then I would suggest you apply for a coaching job and do better.

Out coached? CC was under 25% from the floor. This was a case of a long break off for the camels. Coach Menefee and the rest of the staff have done a great job with a program that is rebuilding. I believe they start 2-3 freshmen with only 1 senior on the roster. This team is young but exciting to watch. Expect big things from these girls come tournament time.

And I'll add one more thing to that before any arm chair QB's say it's his fault for scheduling that way. Coach Menefee didn't make the schedule, it was already made before he hired on. Our girls will rebound from this and make a run at the district title. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK.....
