So if I count correctly, 65 teams have won at least 1 championship. Some of those schools don't exist today.

Interesting...quite a few teams on the leader board for all-time wins with only one or two championships. Both Glasgow and Paintsville don't have one. Also, Highlands averages 8.55 wins per season over its 100 seasons, and Trinity averages 9.56 wins per season over its 59 seasons.

Exceptions to the rules in there. (Breathitt, Caldwell, Bell, Crittenden, Trigg, etc.)

But, unless you are a Private, Independent (yes, I know Independents aren't private) or "county" schools from areas (town/county or both) with let's say at least 30K+..... "Don't stop believing".

So if I count correctly, 65 teams have won at least 1 championship. Some of those schools don't exist today.

Correct. At a glance, I know Flaget has closed. Lynch East was a segregated school for blacks, and has been incorporated into Harlan County. Versailles has also been incorporated into Woodford County, and Heath is incorporated into McCracken County. I might have missed a few.

Private. Independent and two "county" schools. Well, actually three. Hoptown is part of the Christian County school district, but for the longest time they were their own.

So if I count correctly, 65 teams have won at least 1 championship. Some of those schools don't exist today.

So 30% of the schools have won at least one, while 70% have won none.

Great research by the way. Love this kind of stuff.

Private. Independent and two "county" schools. Well, actually three. Hoptown is part of the Christian County school district, but for the longest time they were their own.

I was wondering about how many of those are considered independent public schools. Outside of NKY, I have virtually zero grasp of how many school public school districts. It's always been interesting to me how that works. By my own admission, I've never really looked into the pros/cons of why a public school would want to be an independent...but I know in Kenton County, there are 3 county high schools and 4 independent high schools, Campbell County has 1 county high school and 5 independent high schools, and then Boone County has 4 county high schools and no independents.
