Too much #31 Chris Brown doomed the Mustangs on thier fianl game of the our 2014 Football Season.

Brown ran for four touchdowns on the night and kept the Mustangs at bay as they even their season record at 5-5 and head into the 2-A playoffs, probably facing Newport next week.

The Mustangs played competitively again tonight, had the game tied at 20-20 at the 9:56 mark of the third quarter, but Brown ran 30 yards, 28yards and 36 yards for subsequent touchdowns and the curtain dropped on the 1-7 Mustangs.

For the Mustangs, made up of 50% veterans and 50% volunteers who rallied behind Coach Paul Wiggins to salvage the program and allow us to even have a football season, this season was a success despite the fact that the win-loss ledger was unkind to us.

I'm always happy to see tears from our players following the conclusion of a season. It tells me that it meant something to them. Tonight there were plenty of tears. While we graduate 7 seniors and a senior manager, I personally feel that with the move back to 1-A the program is now positioned to develop and grow into a competitve program - Thanks to this year's team who bridged that gap for us from 2A back to where we belong for now.

Brossart scored on our first drive of the night, going 67 yards on 10 plays culminating in a 2 yard plunge by Logan Schoulthies.

Gallatin Co scored the next two TDs of the period, a 3 yard run by Brown and a 63 yard pass play from QB Trent Brock to Christian Courtney, giving the Cats a 14-7 lead at the end of one.

Frankie Cetrulo scored the Mustangs second TD on a 2 yard adventuresome run, set up by a Clay Kramer to Joe Donnelly 25 yard completion and we were tied at 14s.

A muffed punt return by the Mustangs set up a Gallatin County score on a Brock to Isaiah Streine 30 yard TD pass, with only 32 seconds remaining in the half sent the Wildcats to the lockerroom on top 20-14.

Brossart kicked on-sides to start the second half, and recovered the football setting up a 35 yard Kramer to Donnelly TD pass play that knotted the score at 20-20, but the Cats answered with a 30 yard run to paydirt by Brown, giving the Wildcats a 26-20 lead with 7:26 to play in the third quarter.

Gallatin made it a two-possession game at the 10:32 mark of the fourth quarter on Brown's 28 yard score.

Brossart put themselves in position to make a game of it late, with a 16 play, 75 yard drive that ended on a 5 yard Kramer completion to Garrett Ahlbrand in the endzone, putting the Mustangs within one possession, with 3:01 to go in the game.

Following the Wildcats successfully recovering a Brossart onsides kick attempt, Brown turned the lights off on Brossart's football season with a breakaway 56 yard TD run, giving the homestanding Wildcats a 40-27 win on thier senior night.

Congrats to the Mustangs! As you mentioned, the ledger wasn't kind, but those kids and coaches have made memories no one can ever take away.

Hats off for their perseverance!!

Make that 1-8 Mustangs.

My best wishes to the future Mustangs!

Congrats to the Wildcats! Chris Brown rushed for 278 yards and 4 TDs. He also became the schools all time leading rusher.

Wish the 'Stangs all the best next season in 1A.

A "tip of the cap" to this years version of Brossart football, it would have been easy to "throw in the towel", but you all showed heart, and gave it your best. This will be a great "life lesson" that will stay with you forever. :thumb:
