10th region tournament

Featured Replies

Any chance one of the NKY teams gets beat tonight?

None

Scott HS advances to the Region 10 finals to face Campbell Co. for the 3rd consecutive year.

Congratulations to both teams on a great year and Good Luck to the Lady Eagles!!!!

Quote from GRC coach in Enquirer "It was a whole different level for our girls," Cantrell said. "Northern Kentucky has a good style of volleyball. We haven't seen anyone like that this season, and we froze up."

Again, I suggest GRC, Mason, Bracken, Pendleton, and any other 10th team that isn't scheduling Camp Co, Scott, and Brossart to do so during the regular season to better prepare teams come post-season.

IMHO, rather be 15-15 having faced better competition, than 25-5 and played no one, then freeze when it matters most.

I grew up in EKY and can completely, with qualification, say that parts of the NKY, Louisville and to a lessor extent Lexington, volleyball markets are completely at a different level than the rest of the state. Apologies to the few (and I say few) exceptions throughout the state. Anyway, they start them earlier, play them year round and go against tough national competition all the time. GRC coach is right....it is a different level. Any team wanting to see where they need to be to win state must go a watch Assumption, Mercy, ND, SHA, TCreek, HClay, the Oldhams and maybe Scott, Ryle, etc... Volleyball at the top schools is not a seasonal sport.

If the future is indeed bright as you say, then why doesn't Bracken County schedule more Region 10 teams in the regular season to prepare them for the playoffs? If you want to beat Camp Co and Brossart, you need to play them.

:idunno: We played Scott, Robertson, Harrison, Mason, MoCo, Pendelton, Augusta, Brossart, Silver Grove, Bourbon, Calvery Christian, some of those twice all of which are 10th region teams. . :idunno:

Good question though i dont know why the schedule is the way it is. But who am I to question the coach...

That looks good - maybe replace Silver Grove with Camp Co? Maybe find a way to work in a Simon Kenton or Beechwood or Dixie Heights to get more exposure to NKY volleyball? Every schedule is a balance between winning and competitiveness. If your team is truly up and coming as you say, toughening up the schedule may be the way to go.

Dallaslaredo, who wins??Scott or CC tonight?

While I appreciate your assessment and don't disagree I am going to leave those decisions to coach Smith. We don't really have the front lines like some of the schools you mention. Yes we have a couple of good hitters and a very good middle blocker we still don't have two or three 6 footers at our disposal night in and night out. My feeling is that coach puts the team in the position to be competitive with the all A schools and has his team ready for the district. That's why the schedule looks the way it does. Looks as if it was geared more twards all A and district play.

That was his message at the start of the season was to be in the hunt for the district championship and we were. Now some of the tournaments we were in pitted us against bigger programs and for the most part we held our own just couldn't quite pull out the W. We were a young team this season with freshmen playin varsity at times. With that said the experience we gained was very valuable to the overall development of the team and possibly next year schedule will be a step up from this yrs. but I will let coach make those decisions because hopefully my daughter makes the freshman squad and I can be parent because I trust coach will do what he thinks is best for all them girls. :thumb:

Truth be told hard to say since I have never seen either team play and know them only by what I've read on here. However, the girls are focused on one game at a time as everything from this point on is a bonus.

Truth be told . . . I have good news and bad news . . .Mercy and/or Assumption would pound Scott badly. Mercy is the #1 team in the country, Assumption is/was the 4 time defending State Champion. Scott wouldn't stand a chance.

The good news is Scott doesn't have to worry Assumption (they didn't win their region) and Scott wouldn't have to face Mercy until the Semi-finals Sat night.

So have you seen who the Region 10 winner plays? Region 16! and that would be Raceland!
