Nice win St Henry, good luck in Finals!!!

St. Henry did what I knew they would do, possess the ball well. They space out and make good passes. They also went to the ball and beat Boone to the punch on many occasions. Boone did what I knew they would do, attack off the defense with Mayberry, Brock, and Thamann putting pressure up top. The first half was back and forth until around 20 minutes left in the half when St. Henry scored on a corner kick. The ball was initially stopped but St. Henry got a put back. 1-0 St. Henry.

 

Boone scored on a header by Thamann off a corner kick by Brock with around 5 min. to go in the 1st half.

 

The second half was a hard fought contest with both teams getting scoring opportunities. St. Henry got a goal with 16 min. left in the half off a free kick. Boone player had won the ball but the ref said he pushed off and called the infraction leading to the score. As time was ticking down Boone mounted a furious attack on St. Henry's goal. This time Boone committed an infraction to the right of the goal and the whistle blew as the Boone player followed through with a kick that found net. It didn't count due to the infraction. The St. Henry goalie didn't try to defend the kick because he heard the whistle. Boone was again mounting an attack as time ran out. As a Boone parent this was a disappointing end to the season. I feel bad for the seniors, especially one player who was injured and had to come out of the game in the first half and watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.

 

Congratulations to a very fine St. Henry team. They are solid all across the board. Good luck on Saturday evening.

 

A side note: there was a spectacular sunset looking south and west of Ft. Thomas as Cov Cath and NCC finished their match.

Excellent recap of a hard-fought game. Fortunately for St Henry it ended the way I predicted...blind squirrel. Old Grappler, you are gracious in defeat. The game could have gone either direction and was well-played. Boone County has been through a lot this year. They endured and thrived. Always sad to end a season. I have a lot of respect for the way they handled their rough game with Scott earlier in the season. They handled the situation very well and got control of the situation. Congrats on a great season and good luck in the future.

I don't know the names of all the at. Henry players, but they all played their heart out last night. They knew they had strong competition with Boone, who also put up a great fight. St. Henry #2 never took his eyes off Mayberry who would be a huge threat. Great to see defender #13 scoring for St. Henry. I must mention St. Henry #11, he was on the field the entire game and kept the Boone defenders busy all night, keeping the play up top and setting up plays. He had a few good shots on goal that the goalie did a good job saving, and his free kick led to the second goal, a nice finish by #16. Looks like after a slow start to the season, St. Henry ironed out the kinks and started to play well together as a team. Great team effort last night. Good luck in the finals.

It seems that the guys announcing the game had no idea what anyone's name was either. If you are going to host regional games you should put someone in the booth that wants to be there and will take the time to look at a roster and announce the kids names! The announcer last night sounded like he would rather be anyplace other than where he was. Thanks WatThe for mentioning the St Henry boys. #2 is Jonathan Baeten, 13 is Austin Langen, 11 is Adam Lannon and 16 is Karlan Wesdorp. All four had excellent games last night.

Boone County's goalie, Benjamin, was terrific. He had a lot of really great saves. Very athletic player who could probably play any position.

Mayberry was determined to score and kept the Crusader defense on their toes.

Not sure who scored for Boone but it was a nice goal in a lot of traffic.

 

Crusader Adam Lannon was Mr. Hustle last night. He is Speedy Gonzales fast!

Crusader defense worked together to do what they needed to do.

Great goal by defender Austin Langen! Glad to see Carlin Wesdorp get one in the net.
