HHS will need to play a lot better than they did tonight if they are going to beat ND. Missed quit a few chances at the net that they will need to convert to beat ND. One thing you can say for the coaching staff is they have continued to keep us guessing on line changes and substitution patterns all season!

Up 1-0 at half, Highlands spent the entire second half with 3 and often 4 players pushed up even with Boone's high back line. Unable to hold, bend or time runs... Highlands played almost exclusively vertical resulting in 12 offsides. And no, Boone County was not running an offsides trap. HHS was lucky they didn't get countered on in the second half.

 

It's going to take a lot better effort against NDA... and it's not a subbing patterns issue... it's an issue with girls who've been playing soccer for many years making player's decisions on the field.

Boone has some nice players, and are somewhat young. Can't wait to see what P. Black does in the next few years, she will be fun to watch! Congrats to the Highland girls:up:

Only 12 offsides? I am betting it was more than that and how many times do you need to be called for it before you make the necessary adjustments? Highlands plays vertical pretty much all the time because they do not understand anything different or even better they simply stand around and wait for the ball to be played to them without ever stepping to receive the pass. Yes you are correct that HHS was lucky to not get countered on in either half. IMO Boone was way more physical around the ball which resulted in them winning a majority of the 50/50 balls and it certainly seemed that they kept a lot of pressure on the Bird defense and keepers. A repeat of last nights performance will lead to a shellacking by NDA.

Is that to say they are trying it in soccer and it's not working out?

Who needs to make the adjustments when the girls are constantly looking to be played through and end up offsides??? Maybe there was a lot of subbing because the coaching staff had to bring people out to explain offsides again. I can tell you that the coaches were not arguing offsides calls, but rather asking the players why they were off...again.

 

Highlands defends with their keeper, back four and one or two midfielders very well. To be successful (like getting by NDA) they all have to be committed to defending from the top. To her credit, the one attacking player who I saw busting it to get back on defense late in the game was Taylor Vaughn. I expect she understands that her high school season ends with the next loss. It would be nice to see some of the other girls as interested in doing what is required to advance the team as opposed to looking to advance to goal.

 

The nice thing is that Highlands has it in them to play at the level to beat NDA. The question... will they play for each other and mske it happen?

I do not move a player who played D ALL year to R wing on O for the first time ALL year in a playoff game. Soccer is same as basketball or football in that by end of year you have set lineups so players are very comfortable playing with each other and know each others tendencies, ect. How comfortable can players be when first time together is in a playoff game? I also do not think it is important to make sure everybody plays in playoff game. If you have a lineup working you go with it, sorry but it is lose and go home and some players might night get in the game.

So you are okay with every kid not playing in the game unless it is your kid? I have only seen Highlands play a few times, but you seem to have something to say about them after every game about what you would do different. In fact, were you not the one who started the nonsense about kids crying after the Dayton game? Why were those kids crying, if in fact they were?

Do you believe the coach is intentionally sabotaging his team's chance to win by changing the lineup? Is it not more likely that he believes he has found a matchup/weakness in the opposing team that he can try to exploit, thereby giving his girls a better chance to win, with the new lineup?

There was no new lineup. Simply a position change that really had no impact on the outcome. Must admit it was rather puzzling.
