callmeclutch Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 please let me know. I have a question about off season individual practice!
nWo Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I'm going to put a copy of this in the girls basketball forum to see if you can get some help with your question.
callmeclutch Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Ok I play highschool girls basketball and I was told while in the off season play with a boys ball. Will this help me or hurt me when it comes time to play with a girls ball when sumer ball starts back?
notme Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 IMO you should use a girls ball. Some people feel that using the boys ball makes you stronger and helps you. I am not one of them. Thats what weights are for. :fight:
lp1 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I don't see any advantage...use a weighted ball if strength is the object.
ladiesbballcoach Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I agree use a girls ball. Get used to the feel of it in your hands. If strength is the issue, weighted ball to work with in passing and dribbling. The only advantage I see with the boys ball is having to become more deadeye with your shooting (there are balls out there that are bigger in nature but remain the same weight as a girls ball).
callmeclutch Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Ok thank you all. Someone told me it would help my shooting range and stuff and I am sure it will. But once again thank you all for helping me!
Fastbreak Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 For the record, the officially approved size and weight of a girl's ball is 28.5" to 29" in circumference, and between 18 and 20 ounces in weight. The officially approved size and weight of a boy's ball is 29.5" to 30" in circumference, and between 20 and 22 ounces in weight. The inside diameter of the basketball rim is the same for both at 18". As you can see, it is entirely possible for an official girl's ball at 20 ounces and 29" in circumference to be virtually identical to an official boy's ball at 20 ounces and 29.5". It is also possible to have an official girl's ball at 18 ounces and 28.5" in circumference that's a quarter pound lighter and a half inch smaller in diameter than the largest official boy's ball. The bottom line IMO is if you plan on being a shooter, you need to develop the finely tuned touch you'll need with the actual size and weight ball you'll be playing with. There are better ways to develop strength, and maintain touch than using a boy's ball. :thumb:
callmeclutch Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Or that works to...Ok FASTBREAK...The offocial KHSAA basketball that Kentuvky High School Girls Programs use is 28.5..Correct? So I take it the weight is around 18 ounces..Os I guess what you are trying to say is stick with the girls ball...Oh by the way..Does any one know where i can get a weighted ball at?
Coach Cooper Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Honestly, one of the best techniques to use on your shot, is to get a rubber outdoor basketball and shoot with it. It will help develope touch. Those balls bounce all over the place. Once you become consistent with it, an official ball will be easy to shoot. This is what Baumgartner teaches at his shooting camp.
