How does soccer work in post season? Not like it is regional based, I just don't get it. Who is likely to square off with who?

The top two finishers in district play qualify for regionals. If you win your district, you will play another district's runner-up team at the regional tournament. You cannot meet your fellow district opponent in region play until the championship (if both of you are fortunate enought to make it that far). As for the state tourney, it is already predetermined which region winner plays another region winner. The 9th region winner (NDA's region) will play the 11th region winner in the first round of this year's tournament. Here is a link to this year's state bracket.

District opponents can be determined one of two ways......Seeding games during the season or a blind draw........

So why do they call them sectionals?

So why do they call them sectionals?

Good question. Why do they call the first round of the state tournament semi-state? Basically, you want to at least make the district final (which with most districts, means winning one game to get there). That qualifies you for the regional, regardless of whether or not you win your district. Most regional tournaments have 8 teams, so you'll need to win 3 games at the regional tournament to qualify for the state tourney. Once you make it to state, that's the sweet 16. Just think of it that way.

So why do they call them sectionals?

Named after the ancient Greek word used to describe the tournaments that led up to the Olympics. English translation of the Greek word Slanoitces...........

............or what Heisenberg said.

It is Region based same as basketball with the exception that the first round of what would be the Sweet 16 is predetermined as to what Region plays what Region and it is done by geography. So the 9th region get the 10th, 11th or 12th region in the first round each year (it rotates) and the other two regions play each other. Cuts down on travel since you can't have 16 teams coming together for the first round and then returning home and then 8 having to come back again.

Once the final 8 are determined the competition moves to Lexington.

Should have added that the first round is played at Home fields. Then the final 8 go to Lexington.

look at Slanoitces in a mirror......
