Jim Schue Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 CAL got a 13-0 lead four minutes and change into the game by way of the big play, with a long pass play setting up the first score and a punt return for a TD after a three-and-out on the first Bardstown drive. Bardstown offense struggled to deal with the elements, as the wind and rains came heavy in the second quarter and forced the offense in between the tackles, negating the Tigers' speed. A couple of bad snaps on 3rd-and-short situations stalled promising Bardstown drives. CAL added another score just before halftime when another long pass play set up a rushing TD just seconds before the break. Tigers took the second-half kickoff to the house for their only score.
tcjkbt Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Total offense: CAL had 305............Bardstown had -10.
ascender7 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 It looks like cal could be the 2a team to beat! Not sure if their QB can get it done, defense looks very solid! Young made enough big pass plays last night to get the job done, but the CAL passing game definitely suffered when the rains came, so it was hard for me to get a read on his overall game.
plantmanky Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Cal has a lot coming up in the pipeline as well.
William T. Bonnie 11 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Bardstown had negative ten yards offense really? And was the rain really enough to negate Bardstown's speed and quickness?
Jim Schue Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Bardstown had negative ten yards offense really? And was the rain really enough to negate Bardstown's speed and quickness? Kind of hard to go to the edge and make cuts on a sloppy field. Bardstown's success has always been predicated on its speed. They don't really have any big bruiser-type backs that go between the tackles. They tried in the second half, but CAL knew what was coming and shut it down. They don't pass much either, so it's tough to switch to that, especially in those conditions. CAL is simply better-suited with their personnel to handle a slick field.

price499 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Also, a pair of bad snaps in the first half led to big losses of yardage. Wasn't able to make the game.... How was CAL's Nick Payne and how was the CAL defense?
Jim Schue Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Wasn't able to make the game.... How was CAL's Nick Payne and how was the CAL defense? The CAL defense was amazing. Payne did have a couple TDs, but he was not as impressive as he's looked to me in the past. Had a fumble deep in Tiger territory and was mostly bottled up. Don't know how many yards he had, but it felt like about a 70-yard game.
