Louisville Trinity traveled to Pensacola to play (I think) Pensacola High in the early 60's or very late 50s...and got hammered.

 

Ft. Thomas Highlands beat University Christian 47-17 in 2013.

 

Johnson Central didn't report it to the KHSAA but in one of Coach Musick's final seasons they went to Florida and got destroyed by a team. (Musick's last year was 2000.)

 

1998 Miami Belen Jesuit defeated Grant County 28-0

 

2000 Rutherford defeated Lexington Paul Dunbar 32-15

So in 1938, Princeton went to Ft Lauderdale (by train I guess) in September to play one game and then went back to Florida in December to play three games in five days?!?!?! Can you imagine a team playing three games in five days now??? I guess they at least got to enjoy the December Florida weather...

2002 in Bill Tom Ross's first year as HC the team traveled to Florida during Fall Break. In Coach Musick's final year the team went 11-1.

I recall PT led by Mr. KY Football Billy Jack Haskins played Niceville, FL. in late 80's or early 90's. I can't recall the score. Niceville was the then PT Head Coach Allen Hatcher's alma mater.

Those scores from Princeton "Butler" and its successor, Caldwell County...along with a lot of stories...are included in a beautiful book put together by Todd Griffin of the Princeton Times Leader. It's called "100 Years Of Tiger Football."

 

Regarding comments of Princeton's games in Florida (they also played South Carolina opponents,) the book contains a quip from the coach of that era, "If it hadn't been for World War II, I guess I might have scheduled a game overseas."

 

Todd Griffin is also one of the "diggers" in our consortium that has put together the Kentucky Sports History website.

The September 1938 game was actually in Princeton. Then later the team went to Florida.

 

It was actually considered an "educational" trip, along with playing football.

 

There were many years that Princeton Butler High School didn't start basketball until January because the football season ran so long. A different era, for sure.
