capt278 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Far Left Liberalism at it's best. I love the way they are trampling the Constitution. Where is the ACLU? These students Civil Liberties are being shredded. Oops, forgot, the ACLU probably agrees with the ruling.

capt278 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Could just be that nobody complained to them. I highly doubt that. They usually interject themselves into the more liberal side of the court room with no problem.
Bluegrasscard Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 From the ruling itself: ... In this case, after school officials learned of threats of race-related violence during a school-sanctioned celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the school asked a group of students to remove clothing bearing images of the American flag. ... School officials anticipated violence or substantial disruption of or material interference with school activities, and their response was tailored to the circumstances. As a consequence, we conclude that school officials did not violate the students’ rights to freedom of expression, due process, or equal protection. Background (actual title) in court ruling: The Cinco de Mayo celebration was presented in the “spirit of cultural appreciation.” It was described as honoring “the pride and community strength of the Mexican people who settled this valley and who continue to work here.” The school likened it to St. Patrick’s Day or Oktoberfest. The material facts are not in dispute. ... On Cinco de Mayo in 2009, a year before the events relevant to this appeal, there was an altercation on campus between a group of predominantly Caucasian students and a group of Mexican students.2 The groups exchanged profanities and threats. Some students hung a makeshift American flag on one of the trees on campus, and as they did, the group of Caucasian students began clapping and chanting “USA.” A group of Mexican students had been walking around with the Mexican flag, and in response to the white students’ flag-raising, one Mexican student shouted (profanities...). ... A group of Mexican students asked Rodriguez why the Caucasian students “get to wear their flag out when we [sic] don’t get to wear our [sic] flag?” The interesting thing is the use of 'Mexican' in describing the students. Are they Mexican citizens, US citizens? Celebrating another countries 'independence day' seems like a bad idea. The US is a melting pot. There are other ways to celebrate heritage. Using another sovereign country's national holiday for the purpose just seems like a bad idea.
BlueTip Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I don't have a problem with the ruling. It's pretty obvious the kids wore the american flag shirts to antagonize.
Jim Schue Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I highly doubt that. They usually interject themselves into the more liberal side of the court room with no problem. And they always do it on somebody else's behalf. They "interject themselves" because someone asked them to. That's how it works.
capt278 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 And they always do it on somebody else's behalf. They "interject themselves" because someone asked them to. That's how it works. That's how it is supposed to work. I also have ocean front property in Arizona for sale if you are interested.
mexitucky Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 A. It is only one day. B. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day, September 16th is. C. Mexicans who actually live in Mexico DO NOT CELEBRATE Cinco de Mayo. They ultimately lost the war, even though they won the Battle of Puebla. D. Kids did this to tick of Mexican Americans, not as an outpouring of Patriotism, and the fact that we've used the "plight" of these antagonizers as our martyrs in an attempt to defend our freedom of expression infuriates me. The kids were being punks, not making a political statement. E. Did I mention that people in Mexico do not celebrate this holiday, but it's become a huge issue here?

Jim Schue Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 That's how it is supposed to work. I also have ocean front property in Arizona for sale if you are interested. Just remember — they'll be there when you need them if you ever find yourself swimming against the mainstream one day.
mexitucky Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Then why is it celebrated here? I have no idea. I was in Mexico twice for Cinco de Mayo. Believe me, as a 20 year-old college student, I was pumped to celebrate good ol' May 5th in the land of its origin. Nothing, crickets. I have no idea why it is celebrated here. I know that Puebla celebrates it, but it's not exactly like the whole country does.
ColonelCrazy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Then why is it celebrated here? Because drinking margaritas and tequila during the day is a lot of fun?

Didn't see them jumping to the defense of the West Virginia teen suspended and arrested for wearing an NRA T-shirt to school. We can go back and forth all day. You and I know the ACLU is a Left leaning organization. To pretend otherwise is not being sincere.
Jim Schue Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Didn't see them jumping to the defense of the West Virginia teen suspended and arrested for wearing an NRA T-shirt to school. We can go back and forth all day. You and I know the ACLU is a Left leaning organization. To pretend otherwise is not being sincere. Most of the cases they are involved in do tend to be left-leaning. The ACLU responds to whomever requests their assistance if their civil rights have been violated. As a general rule, civil rights violations tend to be committed by the majority/mainstream, a mob that seems to lack the capacity to even so much as imagine that anybody could possibly see it from a different angle as theirs. Did the WVa teen seek out the ACLU's help? It's right in their ballpark. If he did not ask them for help, well … :idunno:
