Absolutely correct!!! One parent went to the Supt., got Coach Brown fired because of playing time with his daughter, and this is the thread you have now. Supt. didn't even know that SHS's two best players were out for half to three-fourths of the year and this was the main reason for them only winning nine games. Supt. really kept up with the girl's program, didn't he?

 

Thats the first that I have heard of this meeting with a parent and Mr. Sears. However, it is true that most of the parents wanted Coach Brown out at Somerset (at least all that I know). But I can assure you that as a whole the booster club (parents) did not get to meet with the school administration (Sears, Tucker, or Perkins) to talk about Coach Brown. The phone call was made to set up a meeting and was told to just hold on that news would be coming out of Somerset soon. The news of Coach Browns firing came that same afternoon. From my own perspective he just didn't make the right in game decisions to win some of those close ballgames. Did having his two best players injured effect this? Absolutely but this has been building up over the last two years. I also know for a fact that he hurt his own case when in one close "Big" district game he put two middle school girls in. Neither of these two had played the whole game and one for sure didn't have any business at all entering the game (not even close to the high school level yet). It is also an understanding of mine that when Coach Brown and Mr. Sears met that Mr. Sears told him that the girls were making the same mistakes in the District Tournament that they made in the beginning of the season-no progress. It is very hard for me to believe that Mr. Sears didn't know who was hurt during the year, Mr. Sears was at several games. Let me also say that I have no personal interest in who is the Somerset High Girls Coach, I am not a parent of any Somerset High School athlete nor am I in any way associated with any booster club. Me saying that Coach Adkins was a very good fit for the Somerset program had no bearing at all with my belief in Coach Brown.

I know that there were several parents upset with coach brown, and not just over playing time. From what I hear, jumper1 was right in saying that the parents had nothing to do with the decision, because the "chain of commands (tucker, perkins, and sears) wouldn't hear from the parents and based the decidions solely on their knowledge.

Jim may have made some bad tactical decisions, at times, but all coaches do. IMHO, they had the best man for the job. Strategy, discipline , and character. Put all of them combined and you couldn't ask for anyone finer. And, yes, Mr. Sears did not know Cowan and Gomez were hurt.

I think he was unhappy with the direction the program was headed in, the last couple years and decided to make a change. My understanding is that the number of girls involved in the program had drop off. Sometimes a change has to be made just for the sake of change. It gives the program a fresh start. A quality coach in Brown is leaving and a quality coach in Adkins is moving in.

Could be. Just don't feel the current head coach knows as much about basketball. Coach Brown could have gotten as much out of them in open gym than the new guy can in a team camp.

I know Somerset played at the local reebok team camp the last 2 years and I thought they went Boyle at least 1 of the 2. Wouldnt you call those team camps.

Those are team camps. So I would say that the Lady Jumpers have been to team camps.

My mistake...I should have said an overnight camp, such as where they teach you fundamentals of the game as well as giving you an opportunity to play. Not just somewhere to go and get beat by thirty every trip out.
