They are the team to beat in the East until proven otherwise. Returned all but one starter on a team that beat everyone in the East by at least 2 touchdowns last year. They also picked up the Harlan Central running back this year. Can they compete with Mayfield, I'm not sure but they are the top team in the East until someone beats them.

VOR strength of schedule post supports my thoughts. What you say about the east may be true, but does that mean they are better than Frankfort or Beechwood from the west.

I can see Mayfield being considered #1. But am I missing something about their schedule? Graves County has one win on the year. Murray is 3-2 and the only win the Cards have against a winning team so far. They played a great game and could have won against McCracken but didn't.

Not sure you can say that the two haven't got similar resumes to this point. Now I didn't know that Hatfield and Taylor didn't play in the game for Belfry. But wait a minute, they did play. Hatfield is their leading rusher. Taylor runs the Bone as the QB and racks up yards. It's not like Belfry was without their best players. I'm no Pikeville apologists but to discount what they've done so far is to gloss over the resumes of other teams for past reputation.

I think Mayfield is #1 because they always have the best defense. They have 2 shutouts and allowed only 31 points in 2 games to tough teams. McCracken is the only team to put up serious points on them and they were matching them score for score.

Belfry's Top 3 rushing threats all played in all 4 Quarters (Hatfield, Taylor, Willis). All three missed some snaps due to injury...and Hatfield's coudnt have came at a worse time... but all three played over 90% of the offensive snaps.

 

Belfry didn't have their #2 HB Catron (Injured Week 1) nor his replacement Joplin (Left the team this week to trasnfer schools), but Belfry definitely had their heavy hitters on offense and none of that should diminish what Pikeville did.

For me...

 

Mayfield is the best team in 1A and a clear #1. Their resume speaks for itself.

 

Beechwood and Pikeville each have the only legitimate claims at #2 . Pikeville though definitely has the better resume thusfar. Their opponents are 15-7 and they have wins over #1 3A, A Top 10 2A, a Top 7 1A, and a Top 15 1A. It wouldn't surprise me one bit fi Pikeville hasn't already beat two teams that will be playing in Bowling Green. People sleep on Pburg and the quality of that win.

 

#4 is a toss-up between WBurg and Frankfort.

 

#6 is a toss-up between Raceland and Hazard. Think Raceland egts the slight edge there.
