I like the way Collins sets up their bye week each year. It is usually towards the middle of the year, right before they go into district play. They play 3-4 games against teams from higher classes to start out the year and then take a week off. That way they are well tested and are able to rest up before district play begins.

 

Seems like New Cath typically does the same thing. Great idea if you're a team that plans on contending for a state title and need a week to re-group after taking on the bigger teams.

Why not start spring football? We could completely eliminate basketball? Nothing better than year round football.

On phone is the reason for the double post but honestly if they didn't want them to be in pads all year they could have like 7 on 7 AAU teams.

Fort Knox used to always take the first week of the regular season off and then play 10 straight. For them, it made sense because they have so many newcomers, they need the practice before playing somebody. Case in point: Fort Knox has THREE returning players from last year's team. TOTAL. Not seniors. Not starters. TOTAL returning players who were even on last year's roster.

 

Elizabethtown used to always take the last week of the regular-season off. Allowed them to rest for the playoffs. Also allowed them to go scout in person. And with not many of their potential opponents doing the same, took away the chance for their opponents to come scout them.

 

I like the idea of a 10-week regular season then open/bye week for EVERYONE and then playoffs.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Week 0 games going away soon?

 

I am not aware of it going away. It is a necessity for Trinity for getting games scheduled.
