Football camps, as a business, is grown exponentially over the last 10 years. Why? Because more player are going to football camps. Camps are not going away, they are growing.

This includes camps sponsored by outside entities if a member school’s coaches are present or any equipment is issued to participants."

 

Therefore, nobody would go if you had 6 or more individuals at one of these camps.

RAM is totally write on this on. Camps help at Universities and "other" places not used for KHSAA sites will continue to happen, and continue to grow. Individual insurance is provided by the player NOT the school (KHSAA) and that absolves the liability that they have the players sign.

 

Camps will continue to grow because they make these programs and universities a LOT of $$$$ in the summer. This. Is. Fact.

Sure they will go, they just can't hold the camp at their own facility.

 

The key is the bolded part (particularly the word IF) and the whole paragraph is predicated on LOCATION of the camp.. They are saying you can't hold a camp at a member school if more than 5 players from same team attends. Even if the camp is sponsored by someone else, you still can't hold the camp at a member school facility if your own coaches are present or equipment is issued.

 

As long as the camp is not held at a KHSAA member school (high school) or a college facility where the high school plays its games, then as many of the players of that team that wants to attend can attend the camp, legally (and coaches can be present and equipment can be issued)

 

If the camp is held somewhere other than the KHSAA member school (or place where the school plays their games) then those restrictions that follow the bolded part do not apply.

 

If it were said another way, it might read "If more than 5 players from the same school attend a camp, then the camp cannot be held at a KHSAA member school or a facility utilized by a member school. This restriction applies even if the camp is sponsored by an outside entities IF a member's schools coaches are present or equipment is issued to participants."

 

I'm sorry this post has been redundant but I have worded it 2 or 3 different ways and hopefully it will be a little clearer.

My question is, why is this such an issue this year? It's like people want to see schools punished. I'm amazed that we now have what... 3 different threads talking about contact and non contact practices or camps? I'd say Ram has done a pretty good job of establishing that what is being done is legal under laws of the KHSAA. Just stop already.
