August 7, 201412 yr Author That 2004 team... whew... Michael Bush was showing flashes of greatness... as the backup to Eric Shelton. Montrell Jones was returning punts... he averaged 10.5 yards per return over 40 returns. Brian Brohm came in on occasion to back up Stefan LeFors. Golden generation of local talent at UofL from 2004-2006 (local product Mario Urrutia would join the team a year later). They really should have beaten Miami and gone unbeaten that year.
August 8, 201412 yr I'm going to miss the games with Louisville. I hope they get an OC home and home set up at some point. The series between Louisville and USF is tied at 5 apiece. Some of my favorite memories are of those games. 2003 - Clenton Crossley scored from 1 yard out with 10 seconds left in the game to tie it. In the second overtime Stefan LeFors threw an interception and Santiago Gramatica hit a field goal to win it 31-28. 2005 - In their 1st win over a top 10 team the Bulls blew out the Cards 45-14. The first Big East game for both schools. Amari Jackson night at RayJay. The wide receiver ran for 2 touchdowns and threw for another. 2007 - Avenging a 31-8 loss in 2006 at PJCS, the Bulls routed the Cardinals 55-17 at RayJay. The one memory of that game that stands out for me is the Cards fumbling the opening kickoff and USF recovering it in the end zone for a 7-0 lead, only 5 seconds into the game. It went downhill from there for Louisville. 2008 - The Cards came from behind in the 4th quarter to to win 24-20. My most vivid memory of that game is the mysterious defensive holding call on a missed UofL field goal attempt in the 4th. I thought Jim Leavitt was going to stroke out, right there at Papa John's. That was one of 14 penalties called on the Bulls that day, for 109 yards as opposed to 7 flags for 55 yard for the red guys. USF averaged 5 penalties a game in all other games that year. Just sayin'. 2010 - USF kicker Mikon Bonani hit a game winner as time expired, but Charlie Strong had called timeout. Bonani missed the subsequent re-kick sending the game into overtime where karma took over. Strong used his only timeout to set up a 4th offensive down play, that failed, and Mikon hit the game winning field goal. The only win for the Bulls in PJCS. 24-21 2012 - Down 21-10 at one point in the third quarter, BJ Daniels hit Andre Davis with a touchdown pass to give the Bulls the lead 25-21 with a little over 3 minutes left in the game. Too much time for a defense, that had already given up three 4th quarter leads that year. Teddy football brought the Cards right down the field for a 27-25 win.
