addout Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Since in almost everyone's estimates Clay County is the odds on favorite, I propose the question who if anyone can beat Clay County and win the 13th region? My choices are South Laurel and Corbin. So what does everyone think?
gooseman Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Like I said before every team is beatable...If someone in the 13th beats Clay it would probally be Corbin, I know South played them closer but I just dont think they would be the team to beat clay.
SKINPIG Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 They can be beaten but it's not likely. IMO Corbin has the best chance and Clay coasted to a 22 point victory in their last contest.
Jim Schue Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I don't see the Tigers getting beat. They would have to play the way they did the whole 2nd quarter and most of the 3rd against SL, plus the upsetting team would need a huge individual effort to help cancel out Gilbert.

All five Corbin starters are very capable of a 20 point game. It would be very interesting if two players stepped up on the same night.

Did you see the story in today's Times Tribune on the five seniors at Corbin. They went from 2-22 as 8th graders to 26-3 as seniors, that is quite a ride!
gooseman Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 yeah thats a good ride...but they are in my book still riding behind Clay by 22 right now.

Just keep telling yourself that, but the way I look at it Clay County isn't playing anywhere near the level that they played that night against Corbin. On yeah, Corbin had a bad game that night, if you know what I mean. Well of course you do because I've heard it enough from Clay County supporters. You can bet that when Corbin and Clay County meet in the regional final that the score will be much much closer and don't be surprised when Corbin comes out on top.
gooseman Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Ok addout thats all im going to say to you. I mean after Clay beat Corbin by 22 you wouldnt even say that Clay was the better team. Yes Corbin has a good team and yes they could beat Clay because any team can be beat, but right now Clay should be looked at as #1 team with Corbin 22 points behind them...

So Clay barely South Laurel(only because Clay played badly), but Corbin could not have played badly when they lost to Clay. It is possible that Corbin played badly that night(shot almost 20% below their norm) or maybe Clay is that much better. We will surely find out in the regional.
gooseman Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 o yes its totally possible that they had a bad night, but they still lost by 22 pts. So give Clay County girls the credit and agree right now they are the best team. I mean Corbin may come over to Manchester this week and beat the lady tigers by 22 who knows. But if they do beat Clay by 22 you will here me saying that Corbin deserved to win and is the better team, and I think you all should do the same.

I have said all year that Clay is the best team in the region. I still believe that.
Jim Schue Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 You Clay fans have either dodged my question from the NL-Clay game thread, or you haven't seen it. It was said by 51513: I thought it was because he wanted to be the last official in the 13th region to give Coach Gray a technical. And I asked if Gray was retiring, because it sure sounds like that's what 51513 is implying. Is he?
gooseman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 The word around Clay is that he is, and im pretty sure this is his last season
