ESPN: Randle's Foot Is Worrisome

If we go back to Randle's senior season at Prestonwood Christian, he broke the foot early in his senior campaign but made it back to the court late in the season (at least for the All-Star games, but I'm thinking he played some of the late tournament games as well).

Not sure how true it is or not, but what's interesting to me is that Randle's mother has called them out. Says no teams have spoken with her, him or his doctor's regarding his foot.

Typically, I'd believe the report, but it was stated by Jeff Goodman, so I give it slightly less credibility than zero...

Sounds like some teams are spreading some rumors hoping that others will bypass him and he'll slip to them.

Exactly. What he is having done is no big deal of taking out the screw that they put in during the surgery. It is common. Other links saying it is no big deal and should not hurt his draft status. I will see what I can find.

This from his mom. Also see the hightlighted sources for the rumor.....:ohbrother:

Report says Randle needs surgery, Mom calls it 'a lie'

Julius Randle's mother, Carolyn Kyles, told The Courier-Journal on Thursday a Yahoo! Sports report that her son needs surgery after the NBA draft and would be sidelined six to eight weeks is "a lie."

Randle, the former University of Kentucky All-American power forward, is expected to be a top-10 pick in two weeks. Yahoo!, citing anonymous league sources, reported that he likely needs surgery to remove a screw placed in his right foot back in high school.

"Everything with Julius is fine," Kyles said. "There is no surgery scheduled whatsoever. Nothing. They don't have a clue. They haven't spoken to us. They haven't spoken to Julius' doctor. I know for a fact, because he is my son, there is no surgery scheduled, period, now or after."

Kyles said Randle worked out for the Orlando Magic on Monday, then met with the Philadelphia 76ers and is currently working out for the Boston Celtics, who have the No. 6 pick in the draft.

"Call Orlando and ask about Julius' vertical and his speed when he tested there," Kyles said. "It increased from what he tested at the NBA combine.

And people say that BBN is crazy with this stuff. Those guys will say/do/write anything to get clicks on their articles. Some are worse than ambulance chasers.

He now says he would get surgery on his foot if the team that drafts him requires it. Seems like there's some smoke.

Chad Ford has dropped Julius Randle to the #10 spot in his latest mock draft, citing the same foot concerns. He said some teams are more worried about it than others. He said the teams who aren't worried about it "think it will be a minor surgery to fix the screw and he'll be ready by the start of training camp" while those in the opposite camps "think there might be long term issues".

With the way Ford spoke, he seemed pretty certain that surgery was a foregone conclusion.

Still think it is just a minor thing, if any thing at all. If the screw has moved, it is a minor surgery to take it out. This is optional. This is common to have this done. Believe this has been blown up to be more than is there.

For sure. I could definitely see a team saying that hoping that Randle might slip because of it.

I believe this to be the case. Julius also said this in a interview yesterday.

Mark Madsen from the Lakers was quoted as saying something like he couldn't tell there was anything wrong with his foot and that he looked good when he worked out for the Lakers.

The Lakers pick 7th, I believe.
