In the near future, he will no longer be the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Ballmer loses money on this deal. Significantly overvalued team. I still question the 2 doctor diagnosis and timing. Too coincidental, but an easy way out for him. This way he doesn't have to take any personal responsibility for his actions.

Often say things they're not really capable of comprehending. Private conversation. Could get very ugly. I'm not sure I'm buying it.

 

Agree with the sentiment, but I do think he probably legitimately has Alzheimer's. That seems like something that would be incredibly hard to fake, and if he takes this to court and makes it the basis of his claim, he'll be subject to the scrutiny of doctors other than his own.

 

When I initially heard the tape of the conversation, I thought, "what (or what combination of things) is he on?". Maybe the answer was, "nothing he shouldn't have been, he's just old and has a serious mental disease".

I know what you are saying, as he probably had a good idea of his Alzheimer's before, and maybe even a diagnosis, but for a guy with so much money, I can understand why he might go to lengths to try and hide/mask his disability. Alzheimer's means he's got an ex-wife, a girlfriend fifty years younger than him who seems like a snake, and tons of heirs and stakeholders who could try to get in his pockets. That is significantly easier if he's not capable of making decisions for himself.

 

I would even argue that in so many ways, one of the easier ways to tell that someone in a situation like his has actually "lost it" is the fact that they see the signs and still are in a state of denial and/or really think that they'll be able to keep control through making informed decisions.

 

 

Based on Sterling's history, it's easy to find evidence that would indicate that he held what most would consider some pretty racist beliefs during his lifetime. That isn't really the issue if someone is in the mental state that Alzheimer's puts them in. People with Alzheimers don't even have the comprehension of things that are deeply ingrained in their lives, so it's not really a stretch to see how this happened given the circumstances. You'll see "Golden Alerts" in the media because an elderly person has left home and can't find their way back and later hear of the person being found in a far away city. People don't remember their own children's names.

 

 

Given how quickly most of these events have unfolded, especially when most were expecting a protracted legal battle, I think it's fair to say that he actually has Alzheimers or some type of similar diminished capacity.
