Grant County 2014

Featured Replies

What does Grant County need to do to improve in 2014? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I think this team needs to measure success with getting better every game. This program has struggled since the start and it needs to stay positive and continue to build. For a 5A school the numbers are low. The coaches, players, and community need to rally around this program and keep it going in the right direction. They had a very good head coach, but they need to get more talent out on the field and keep developing the talent that is there. The bottom line is your speed is your speed, and they are not a fast team, but they need to make up some of that with grit and toughness. I feel they are going in the right direction but this is going to be a long journey to get where they want to be.

Agreed 1000%, however, the new district could kill any momentum they create this year.

They are playing as an independent starting in 2015.

Is that finalized? KHSAA didn't approve it at the BOC meeting.

Yes

Very smart move.

I saw marked improvement in their program last year as far as athleticism, play selection and endurance.

I am usually not for playing an independent schedule but in this case I think it is the right move.

According to the final alignment they are not playing independent. They are still in the district with Highlands and Cov Cath.

That's what I thought as well, but others say different.

You've typically seen numbers drop, by class, as they get older. They'll have seemingly 40 kids come from 8th grade, and by the time they're seniors, there's only 7-10 there for senior night. Got to keep the kids involved longer, if they can. I know there's going to be competition from a.) getting a job after school, b.) getting driver's license, c.) girlfriend, and d.) focusing on academics. So, I think you've got to at least keep the schedule somewhat competitive to counter those, in order to keep kids not only for the games, but also for the practices. So, if it takes going with an independent schedule to do that, I think it's a smart move.

If that's true, it's going to be an uphill battle.

CCH and cmpany are scrambling right now to replace them on their schedules. It will be official after the next BOC meeting.
