Travelers Peach Jam Bound

Featured Replies

Saw on the Travelers twitter accounts that Carson Williams was invited to the Nike Top 100 camp. Congrats to Carson! Hard work is paying off for the young fella!

I was wondering the same thing.... Size is not an issue for them. They have proven themselves capable of competing at this level the past 2 years. Not sure why people still doubt them. Last year they were one of the top 8 teams in the Nike EYBL.

I'm not doubting them...if anything, I'm one of their biggest supporters.

Just because I say teams with a good 4/5 could give them trouble, doesnt mean i think they cant compete and win. Hell, they beat Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander last year and Stanley Johnson/Ivan Rabb with nobody over 6'7.

Guard play wins at this level but having post depth certainly helps as well.

Travelers have earned an at large bid to the Peach Jam.

Great news. This team seems to be playing well and hopefully will do well in Peach Jam. Congratulations.

Lack of size is what worries me as well. 1-3 they can compete with anyone but teams with a good 4-5 could give them trouble.

Interestingly enough 6'7" McDonald and 6'6" Williams are the teams 2nd and 3rd leading scorers. So don't tell these boys they're undersized. They play hard and have a lot of heart.

Realistically is the team undersized at this level, yes. But they are undersized 1-5, not just 4-5. Their guards are as undersized as their "bigs" are. McDonald helps break the press b/c their guards are getting trapped by bigger and stronger guards. Not a problem. That's what makes them a better team.

In fact, I believe 6'6"/6'7" Matt Rose had an great tournament last weekend, and has been asked to play some 4.

keep in mind their "bigs" did all this work w/o Spaulding. He didn't travel to Sacramento nor did he travel to Minnesota. He only played in two games at Hampton, and played very limited minutes the other two games.

I also wouldn't say "Guard play wins at this level" I would say "team play" wins at this level. If the Travelers play as a team and share the ball like they have in the past, they can beat any team in the Peach Jam.

Congrats boys! You deserve this and earned it! GO enjoy July.

I would agree with LexFan. When your 6'6 & 6'7 big guys are built like lineman it doesn't matter who and what size of a guy you play against. We have watched McDonald muscle himself through anything to score and then beat the other big guy (or guard) down the floor on fast breaks.

If they can pull it all together I think it really is going to make for an exciting tournament for them.

Look forward to following them in July.
