Conner 4 Boone County 2

Featured Replies

I'm not an umpire.

If I had to rename myself with a relevant umpiring term, it would be CallWhatYouHear, lol.

It's a regular occurrence for umps to rely on just their vision when making calls on routine plays at first base.

And regarding Boone/Conner, I love watching these two teams play each other because they compete so hard. Both teams were down to their #3, #4, or #5 pitcher trying to win last night. It was a lot of fun.

Gotcha Thanks and that is funny..

The men in blue had a tough game. Boone's starter was jumpy Wednesday night and balked repeatedly. No call by the umps. Conner players, coaches and fans were all over the umps but they refused to enforce the balk rule. It reached the point where the Boone coaches were coming out of the dugout yelling at their own pitcher to stop balking. He did it a couple more times, probably caught up in the game not realizing what he was doing, but the umps still wouldn't call it. Several of the balks came with Conner having runners on 2nd and 3rd in a 0-0 game.

Last night in the continuation of the game, the umpires inexplicably called a balk on Conner's pitcher for dropping the ball. He was on the side of the mound , about half way between the rubber and the grass. Conner argued and the umps conferred, but between the 3 of them still got it wrong.

There was another bad call on the bases in the bottom of the 7th but fortunately didn't lead to any runs being scored.

You can always tell what side a BGP user is from. Yes, the pitcher from Boone pushed the balk rule to the limit. Fans and players who really don't know the rule, hear the coach start yelling balk, well that must meant a balk. Truth is, the pitcher only needs to pause for a very, very, little time, this pitcher has always pushed the definition to the limit. This has kept very few runners advancing on him. I know a base coach would loved to see a lot longer time. It would make it so much easier to get his runner to the next base. A good ump knows the rule, so even if you have a yelling player, fan or coach, a good ump isn't going to call a balk just because a team needs a run and is yelling a balk. I have watched many games in this area and the Conner coach at first base,IMO, is got a history of yelling balk. Normally, It seems to be a mental punch at the pitcher instead of a real balk. About the Boone Coaches yelling quit balking, No they were yelling to pause longer, to keep the players, fans and coaches from using the balk talk to generate runs. I commend the umps for knowing the rule and doing a nice job.I know the Boone fans could get on here and complain about the 3 or 4 plays called on the base path that were thought to be bad calls against the Rebels, but the game is over, Conner won this battle. Great game by both teams and good luck next week.

While we are on the pitching of this game. I was at both nights of this game and would of loved to see Boone's starter on that mound w/o shoulder issues and able to perform at the level Boone has seen him all year. The player left the game in the 3rd inning w/ medical issues. I was told last night, he has been shutdown from throwing . A hard blow to Boone. He kept the Cougars scoreless for 3 innings and was nowhere near 100%. If this player was 100%, I feel Boone would be celebrating a repeat district title. Kid has a bright future. Hopefully a minor setback and he is back at it soon.

It was nice to see him honored on the All Tourney team w/ such a great group of players.

Ganns or another kid? If it was Ganns, he wouldn't have been able to throw yesterday anyhow due to pitch more than two innings on Wednesday.

I doubt very seriously it was Ganns. Ganns pitched Monday and I would doubt they would throw him out there that soon for a game that was, well, pretty meaningless. Yes it was for district title and all but you'd rather have him ready and 100% for the regional tourney.

Whoops, completely forgot about him throwing on Monday. He wouldn't have even been eligible to pitch on Wednesday.

Just ignore me.

If you want to make a case for your pitcher, you'll need to make a better argument than "he pushed the balk rule to the limit".

I know the rule and how umpires are instructed to enforce it. It's obvious you don't. There was no discernible pause, not even a bounce of the hands (which is also illegal). It was one continuous motion without delay or pause.

Sorry if I hurt your feeling talking about your son. It wasn't his fault the umps weren't calling it properly. If they don't call it, keep doing it. If Conner's pitcher was making the same move I'd be saying the same thing. Bad umpiring.

Since you seem to know so much about the rules, why don't you explain to us why the field ump missed the call at first base in the 7th inning and what the proper technique is for calling that play?

Actually, My son has played with this kid , no relation. I'm sorry if you are the father of the Conner player who balked or sorry if you are the coach . I guess we will have different opinions of how long he paused for and definition of a balk. As for the base path issues you have, just let it go and enjoy your win.Too many thread gets thrashed because their kid didn't the credit the parent thinks he deserved. Move on and enjoy the day w/o rain. Believe me I have seen calls I didn't like , voiced a little opinion at games and moved on. I don't need to make a case for anything from this game, I'm already thinking about great games on Monday.

No problem with Boone. I have good friends in Boone's program and total respect for them.

My problem is with the general poor umpiring we have in this region, much of which could be corrected with some basic instruction. We have a small number of good umpires unfortunately. If you're on here to defend the umpiring I'm sorry I'm gonna call you on it.

If somehow Boone and Conner face each other again for the region championship it will be epic!

P.S. Sorry we've seen a frustrating run of poor umpiring lately. I didn't mean to take it out on Boone's team or fans. My only issue is with the umpires. I'm going to start another thread on umpiring to get it out of this one.

Yep, let this one go, Bluetip knows more about the rule book than Billy Graham knows about the Bible, your getting silly. Hopefully these two talented teams meet up again. Great baseball teams. They will both represent the district well in the regional tourney. Good luck!

I love you Dbird.

I started a new thread on umpiring so take a read over there.
