Central Hardin 2014

Featured Replies

What does Central Hardin need to do to improve in 2014? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Central Hardin should be a pretty good team for the next couple of years. Their QB is back and they will have a couple of stud Juniors back at skill positions. I think they will be as successful as they were last year. The question is, have they solved the Meade County problem they encounter every year.

Complete overhaul of the offense, I think, will cause them to step back. Defense may be better in the long run.

When CHHS made the transition from Delaware Wing-T to spread they got kids to buy in and have had success ever since...going back to the wing-t could be a hard sell to the kids and parents, especially since the only thing they may recall about that style of play is losing. Does that in any way indicate they can't be successful??? Of course not, Scott Co. won the title running that offense and John Hardin has done very well with it. But at Central it could be the beginning of the end. I for one hope not, I have some good friends associated with the program.

Darkhorse, I am a JH guy, but are you hearing they may be going back to the Wing-T? I agree that may be a mistake for them.

They are advertising for coaches with wing-t background

Hoss you guys run that thing as well as anyone, and I played in the offense so am also very familiar. Yes, they want to go back to the wing-t and they wanna be about 70-30 run-pass. Big change from what they have been accustomed to for nearly a decade. Not sure how the kids and fans will react if the results are not on par with what they have been. However, defense should improve with Mattingly being the former DC at Meade.

I definitely agree that their defense will improve. With the Krupinski kid at QB and with guys like Arnette and Roush (not sure if they are spelled correctly) I am not sure why you would change the offense. It may take a year or two for that offense to be successful but IMO Central Hardin's most talented classes are the next two years.

Mattingly will change the mentality of that program they won't be scared of Meade anymore.. The weight lifting will change and he brings a Meade offensive line coach with him. The wing t will be very successful with Mattingly as coach. It might take a few years to get that "air raid" mentality out of there but he will win ball games and kids will buy in.

Doing quite a bit of it (Wing T) from the spread, too, so I have heard.

I know Cats and DH are aware of the following, but for those who are curious, just youtube "Capitol High School Shotgun Wing-T" (school out of Montana), and you can get an idea of some of the Wing things I heard they are doing out of the spread (which are some of the things that Meade had gone to as a little change up the last couple years). Same concepts/schemes, just some more smoke and mirrors (good ones at that).

...it's from the shotgun, so it has to be better, right? lol J/K (

Winning is the key...but they won't give him "years" to get the wing-t in there. The last time they had a losing season was when they ran the wing-t (Delaware version) and single wing. Don't think that the parents don't remember that and believe me when I say the parents get what they want in that end of town. They scored plenty of points last year and the year before so I hope they don't change the "mentality" too much on offense (mentality has NOTHING to do with what offense you run-watched several teams go ofer last year with a hard-nosed run mentality), but defense has to get better and that is where their PHILOSOPHY has to improve. Looking forward to watching the Bruins improve under Mattingly.

I think if he gets the kids to buy in, at the end of the day it will be all good. I played under Mattingly and the greatest thing I look back on was his weight lifting program. He gets the kids in such a shape that it feels like as a player they are the baddest dudes on the field which translates to confidence and toughness and most off all no fear.. we had that were tougher than our opponent mentality and in my own opinion is what Central lacked when playing Meade but I feel it's gonna change.

When it comes to football, there are two kinds of nuts. A Wing nut and a Fling nut. You can win with either...

Don't forget the "Single Wing Nut". In my experience, there is no coach that is more fanatical about his offense then a coach that runs the Single Wing. I met one coach that had the Single Wing offense tattooed on his thigh for illustration purposes, not kidding.

^^Come on now Ram, you can't say single wing anymore...you have to say "Wildcat". Sounds more innovative and automatic 'this guy can coach' style points. Single Wing is too boring. (insert my sarcasm there)
