Raceland and Russell return to the Gridiron 2015

Featured Replies

Although, not a signed contract, both schools have agreed to return to playing football in 2015. It is my understanding that 2015 will be @ Russell.

I think the boat has sailed on the importance of this game. Russell didn't want to play Raceland for 30 years because "it would be one sided with Russell winning all the time" and "there's no reason to play Raceland". Then after Raceland won 5 in a row all we heard was crickets from Russell. Now, all of a sudden the Russell/Raceland game is important for Russell. I say make them wait 30 years, then ask them to play.

I agree, but we are scrambling to find games. Ironton is dropping us due to their new conference. It looks as if we need to find another game since we are going to a 3 team district and there may an issue with the Coal Grove game after this year. We kind of have to play Russell regardless, just to complete the schedule. In the famous words of our illustrious Coach Lewis, "It's just Russell."

Play anyone but them. I mean, we waited 30 years, let them wait. There are teams every year looking for games, play them.

I'm dead serious, I have no desire to play them after waiting 30 years, then beating them five years in a row and them dropping us again. If I was coach, which I am not, hell would freeze over before I played Russell again.

I agree Ram.I also feel the same about Greenup Co. With everything going on between the two schools why should we go down there and give them a good gate.Lots of schools across the river to play.We just need to start thinking out of the box.

GC tried to stop a few years back and got destroyed by everybody for trying. Now you guys dont want to play it anymore?

If I was Greenup County I wouldn't want to play Raceland either. Hell, I wouldn't say the word "Raceland".

But, Raceland most certainly wants to play Greenup County and Russell, it's like a big commercial for Raceland. Plus, there is a big pay day attached.

Don't confuse some of our opinions with the school's opinion.

Absolutely Ram, I am Not in favor, have any desire for the game. As you said, for up to 25-30 years Raceland coaches, school admin. did absolutely everything but get on their hands and knees and beg Russell to renew the series. I believe that was one of the original factors in the Raceland / Ashland series starting, was bc coach Ross was looking to upgrade the schedule, draw local interest and more respect for the Raceland program bc in the "elite Flatwoods-Bellefonte" self proclaime inventors of the game of football, it was "lil' Raceland isn't bad for their size school, just not close to our level":lol2:.

Well, the series finally was renewed with Russell winning the first one - then Five Raceland wins in a row and all of a sudden the boys and gals on Red Devil Lane doesn't renew, backs out of contract.

SO....Raceland has more than just proven a point and is in just my humble opinion......Raceland doesn't need, get anything out of playing Russell. We play a tough schedule and with the likes of Ashland, Coal Grove, OH, Pikeville a couple of times, Ironton, OH, etc., etc.........The Rams have UpGraded , Have a nice day Devils fball and good luck in the future. :D

:thumb: Exactly.....I along with others on here really have no official decision making power...except for what games to attend and that's pretty much all of em', lol. There is one and only one in the area that I wouldn't attend a game, give them the ticket price or concessions and that school isn't located in Greenup County. :D

As for the bolded, I agree  and the other line is the disclaimer, that's not the school's statement.

Keep Ironton, keep Coal Grove. Russell and Greenup can't beat those two, much better games to prepare the Rams for the playoffs and great gates to replace Greenup County and Russell. Heck, the Russell gate wasn't that good the last three games anyway, the Russell fans were staying home.

Put that with Ashland, Lawrence County, Boyd County, East Carter and maybe one or two teams from outside the area and you have a very good non-district schedule.

I agree, I personally would love to play someone that we haven't played in a while, start a new series with them Plus someone, maybe a good 1A program that we have never played before. Past seasons have shown that the only 1A teams that Raceland has played are the ones in the district and playoffs. I actually would like to see the school in West Ashland, WVA move to another district bc of the way things have been and no doubt will still be done there. No respect for them at all.

Well, this thread went a different path than I expected........ LOL. I was just saying that it appears we are getting a local team to play us again.

I think for the Raceland fans (and many of the Russell fans), the train has already left the station with the Railcity Bowl. Time to move on. Lets start something new, like the game with Ironton seems to be generating more interest by both schools.

I, personally, for several years have been lobbing to play one of the NKY schools. A series with Beechwood would be nice to see since we no longer play them in the playoffs, unless we both make it to the State Championship game. Frankfort would be a possibility, same situation in the playoffs.

As I said, I have absolutely 0 interest in a Raceland/Russell game. Named the game, looking forward to a great series with little travel time for both. Series finally began, Russell wins game 1-heard all the "told you so's" and then Raceland saved travel time on the "traveling trophy" by keeping it in its Raceland home starting with game 2 of the 6 game series. After 5 losses in a row, Russell decides not to renew the contract (translation-they quit)

SO.....Been there, done that and have the t-shirt. :lol2: / We came, we saw, we Win 5 in a row - they quit. :idunno:, point made. Goodbye :D.
