One of Belfry's first football coaches.....

Featured Replies

Bill Benedett, passed away Friday morning at his home. He was 92 years old. He coached at Belfry in 1948-1949 and also coached at Elkhorn City for a few years. He was my uncle and loved all sports, especially high school football and all UK sports until the day he died. He will be greatly missed.

Sad to here this. I'm sorry for your loss, 30dad.

Sorry to hear about you losing your uncle, 30dad. Sounds like we lost a great contributor to Kentucky sports on Friday.

I'll add your family and the repose of Bill's soul to my list of prayer intentions.

My condolences on the passing of Coach Benedett. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate.

I knew that he coached during that period, but I admittedly don't know much about him. You and I talked once about it 30dad when I posted something about Belfry's past coaches. I had Coach Benedett as coaching the 1949 year with a 2-7-2 record, but thought he may have coached more prior to that year.

Even though Belfry started playing football in 1926, their football records don't exist prior to 1949 because of a fire at the school and I have no historical information prior to that year.

Rest In Peace, Coach :thumb:
