Jerry Lucas rumors

Featured Replies

I am writing this thread to clear up a rumor that has spread all over the central to NEKY areas. Jerry Lucas never applied for a job at Russell or Raceland. The only connections to this area are that Jerry played at Greenup and remains friends with me and knows some of the area coaches. He is perfectly happy at Collins. It is also a fact that I tried to talk him into coming to Raceland after we lost Coach Maynard. Although he was flattered that we asked, he never spoke to anyone at Raceland except me. He is not nor was he ever a candidate for the position. This rumor is not amusing to Coach Lucas or his family. So, if you hear this being spoken, either correct them or refer them to this thread. Also, they can direct message me. Thanks

These type of rumors always start when there is a job opening in the "Home County" of a coach. Yes, Coach Lucas is from Greenup County. Yes, both Raceland and Russell are located in Greenup County. But, it is not necessarily true that Coach Lucas wants to move back to Greenup County.

I think it is just a normal thought that every coach want's to move home.

If he's that sensitive to rumors, he's got a really tough job.

I don't think Coach Lucas is thin skinned just doesn't want rumors hurting the good thing he has going at MLC.

With all due respect, if he has a good thing going why would he be worried about unfounded rumors? Seems silly to me.

To my Raceland family and friends I have been away for awhile actually since the end of the State Football games just needed a little time away Congrats on your new coach and I think he will do a fine job at Raceland as I know his heart will definitely be there. I hope to make down to his first game August 22nd at West Carter I think it is. Hope to meet up with all of you and just to say hello if anything else. JD Erlanger/Lloyd & Cooper High School. I know Mr. Randy Cooper is happy. JD

I thank you and appreciate your support of Raceland through the years. I hope that if you can make it then you will see Coach Salmons start his Head Coaching career with a Win.

Oldrambler thank you and I really do plan to be at this first game and Little Ram thanks for letting me know it is at East and not West been to both many times when I coached and scouted for Lloyd High School. I have known Coach for along time and he is like family to me since his Uncle Randy Cooper was my brother in law. I have always been treated great when I traveled down the AA Highway to scout back in the day and will be nice to visit again. Hope to see you all at the tail gate party if you all have one let me know. Thanks again everyone. JD

Oh, The Ram Family always tailgates.

Can't wait to see you John, I'm sure you and the Cooper Family are proud of Coach Salmons. That first game should be a big event.
