Williamsburg 47 Knox Central 44 (13th)

Featured Replies

Williamsburg pulls off the upset and knocks off Brian Evans' Knox Central squad.

For those who might be surprised by this, I think that some of it could be explained by Williamsburg getting Skylar Griffith back from an injury he suffered in the State Football Semis.

Knox Central led by ~7 with ~2:00 remaining before Williamsburg came back. The Panthers got a three off at the buzzer that would have counted if it went in.

Thank you. I definitely wanted to know what is up....:lol2:

Before Griffith's injury, he was considered a top 10 player and Williamsburg a top 10 team in the region. He and his brother are both really good athletes.

Before the season, I was told by someone very familiar with the 13th that Griffith would have much more notoriety if he played at one of the bigger schools.

Congratulations to Williamsburg!

Like PurplePride92, I too appreciate knowing of the late personnel change (unusual or rare this late in the season) because as you point out it definitely could have made a major impact in the outcome of this game.

It raises Williamsburg's hopes as a late Cinderella possibility for the 13th and dashes the dreams of Knox Central's fans who had high hopes for a team that had established a solid base of work (wins over Regional favorites Clay County, Bell County, Corbin & South Laurel) this season.

Thanks, and most definitely.

Griffith had a pretty bad injury late in football season. It was something along the lines of a break or tear. He's only a Junior and there's HIPPA and all that, and nothing else ever came out past it was 'bad' that I could substantiate.

Both of the Griffith kids are really good athletes, gridiron and hardwood. I don't think that Skyler's brother plays football, but it's my understanding that if he did suit up, he'd be one of their best players. That's saying something for a pair of kids that took their school to their first ever State Finals. The part about the younger brother's football skills came from a really close friend of mine who grew up in Williamsburg and is very knowledgable about football.

Like I said earlier, someone who is really familiar with the 13th told me that if he played at one of the bigger schools in the area, that way more people would know of him. That part came from someone who'd know (but isn't on the Clay County staff, though I've heard some people who watch a lot of Clay County's games talk about how good the kid is supposed to be as well).

As for Knox Central, that has been their story in quite a few years. Strong regular season, can't get over the hump in March.

I really question how much the kids like Evans and how hard they'll play for him. He was supposedly let go/re-hired in a period over the summer that was pretty drawn out and publicized, so I think that it's fair to say that I question that in such a public manner (something I wouldn't necessarily do otherwise).

Thanks, and most definitely.

Some of the parents of the players don't like his slow tempo style and pretty much had him fired after last season. I guess that the slower tempo means less shots for their kids, and it kind of trickled down to discontent among some players as well. The political winds of Knox Co. blew back his direction and he was re-hired midway through the summer though.

I will be very surprised if he is the coach next season at Knox Central. They return virtually everyone and the fans were already talking about back to back 13th Region titles months ago.

If you can play they will find you. EX: Brett Bach from tiny Augusta
