Newport 62 Bellevue 59

Featured Replies

Final from Bellevue.

A little surprised this one was as close as it was.

Newport was fighting amongst themselves tonight. It looked like one of their players left in the middle of the game, not injury related.

How did Bellevue play? Anyone have a big game for them?

As a whole the Tigers played pretty well. Some turnovers on soft passes and some ill-advised over-passing in the lane, but overall a pretty effective offensive showing. Austin Woodyard had an outstanding game putting down around 26 or so I believe. Zach Barrett also contributed with a strong offensive night when he was able to stay on the floor (fouls). Senior Zach Poinsett put down some threes at very key moments to stop Newport rallies. All-in-all a somewhat sloppy game by both teams but extremely hard fought and fast paced. One point ballgame with about 35 seconds to go in the game before a couple of those aforementioned bad passes gave Newport the final margin.

With the win Newport wraps up the #2 seed in the district, and the HHS faithful breathe a sigh of relief.

If Bellevue would have pulled off the upset it would have caused a 3 way tie in the district. Not sure how the tiebreaker would have fallen out, but one of the 3 would have landed in the 4 slot and have to face NCC in the semi's. Now HHS and Newport will play for the right to make the ninth region tourney at the BOKC.

Sounds like a solid effort from the Tigers.
