Dixie Heights 66 Newport 45

Dixie pretty much roughed Newport up after a pretty competitive 1st quarter.

It was interesting to see Dixie put Hatton on Snapp most of the night. Hatton was VERY PHYSICAL with Snapp the whole time he was on him. You could see that Ethan was not comfortable with it at all (I wouldn't have been either... lol... Hatton is one thick dude). He still got free for some looks that he hit early in the game, but it really took a toll on him as the game went on.

Nick Niehaus with another very strong game. He is beginning to emerge as a real offensive threat as a big for Dixie.

Agree with you on the Hatton on Snapp. Such a physical difference. Probably a good call the Chevalier.

What did Niehaus do offensively? I saw Chevalier tweet that he had 8 boards.

Not sure how many points, if that's what you're asking. He is attacking the rim, getting offensive putbacks and getting to the free throw line. Just being a lot more dynamic and aggressive on offensive.

What about Hatton's points?

Everyone is on watch.

Newport (11-8)–Price 3 7 13, Turner 1 0 2, Spicer 1 1 4, Covington 2 0 4, Snapp 5 3 16, Williams 1 0 2, Ochoa 1 2 4. Totals: 14 13 45.

I believe Hatton had 17... so, I think that puts him 50 away? (not official)

(Damn that Walter guy... "Mr Know-it-all")

Does anyone know if the Turner kid is OK? He took the back of Schreck's head to his knee at full speed and had to leave the game. Ugly play. Hope he is OK.

Niehaus is starting to be more aggressive rebounding and put backs in the paint and not relying on his jumper , also for the first time I have seen the Coach had Bolin and Hedger in at the same time this year which Newport had nothing to match up. This could put alot a pressure on a team with the bench to give up fouls and they have and Hatton, Schreck and Moore contributing from the outside slashing to the basket ,creating easy assists for biggs into easy layups. Definitely going to be a game to watch on Wed. against Holmes at Dixie.

Hedger had 2 and Bolin had 0... not sure what you mean when you say this?

I thought Dixie looked their best when Niehaus, Schreck and Moore were playing the "bigs" role against Newport.

Don't get me wrong... I love me some Hedger and Bolin, but I didn't see them causing problems tonight.

Not much offensively but disruptive in the paint . Not enough time on court too see what could be.

In talking to a few NKy coaches, this is exactly what they didn't want to see. 6'5 and 6'7 is tough to match up with unless your NCC. Especially if you have Schreck, Hatton and Niehaus, or even an athletic Moore on the floor. Dixie has some very tough matchups they can exploit. Hedger and Bolin may not have scored a ton tonight, but they pose defensive problems and once they get used to the lineup, they will be tough to handle offensively as well. Good coaching by Chevalier and the staff there.

My understanding is that defensive "ability" is what keeps Hedger and Bolin off the floor at times.

I really, really like both of these guys, but their footwork and quickness are a liability against bigs who can put the ball on the floor. Players like Bo Schuh and the Noble kid from St Henry are difficult to guard for them.

I do think there will be some moments in games where Ken wants to play a 2-3 zone for a stretch and plug them in. But for the most part Dixie plays M2M.

I'm glad these guys are on the team and I believe they bring a lot to the table, but I really don't see Dixie using too much of a "twin tower" approach.
