I've railed for years on here about fans/blowhards telling everyone that the kid(s) from their school is "D1" when history shows VERY FEW kids are D1. Yet anytime a form letter lands in a mailbox or a kid gets invited to watch a practice then "Billy Joe is definitely D1" posts start popping up. Heck, there are 9 D1 Billy Joe's at some schools.

 

What happens almost every time? Kid signs something other than D1 and then people who don't know any better are "I thought you were D1, Billy Joe?" No kid should have to apologize and especially when all they did was the best they could. They weren't the ones blowing smoke up everyone's rear ends. They weren't the ones saying "I'm D1." They just played. They had fun. They achieved. They got a scholarship to something other than D1. They did something the vast majority of us never did.

 

Let the kids achieve at the level they should. Let them enjoy the process. Let them be high school players. Don't lose your mind when you hear a kid got a letter or got invited to watch practice. The kid has a legit shot at D1 when the school says "let us pay your way for a visit" or when they offer.

 

Many of us know that. We don't put a kid in that situation. Too many aren't smart enough to know how it works OR to think about the kid in question.

 

Damn shame.

It is such an honor to be able to continue playing the sport you love at the next level,whether it be football, baseball, softball, volleyball or whatever. There should never be such high expectations put on 14-18 year olds that they don't already have as well as their coaches and teammates and families.

 

Im so proud to see these kids get to commit to play at the next level no matter what division. Just to be able to is such a huge and incredible opportunity. I agree with Clyde. No kid should ever feel embarrassed or ashamed in any way because of expectations put on them by someone from the outside. Although those that do brag about players are very proud and we will never look down upon that pride they show, but at the same time p,ease be respectful to the athlete and don't add any unwarranted pressure.

I think there may be a misconception of what the definition of "recruiting" is.

 

I will leave BK out of this scenerio because I don't know. But some feel if a coach visits a kid that means he is being recruited. Some think if a kid gets a letter for an invite to the school for a visit, that means he is being recruited. Some may also think that being invited to a school for a camp by their coach means they are being recruited.

 

In all those Scenerios an offer may never have been discussed. So is that fair to call it recruiting? To some maybe, to others maybe not.

 

I think where the problem arose recently is when a player was touted to be the best in the area, not by his fault or his own doing, yet was touted to been recruited by several D1 schools etc. he was touted to be better than other players who were heavily recruited and always compared to a certain player who was nationally ranked and had been recruited heavily this past year.

 

With all the talk about how "Great" this kid was and when it's all said and done the poor kid came out on twitter basically sounding like he had to come up with an excuse for going to a DII school instead of a D1 school. That isn't right. He and everyone should be estactic he is getting the chance to play at the next level. If it were up to you UK, you basically had him playing for a school like Notre Dame next year. That is what we are talking about here.

 

Expectations can hurt when they are continuosly talked about, and that is what happened in that case I think.

I never said anything SK would be playing D1. I did say many times I hope SK players get to play D1. Some people should get their facts right before they call someone out.

I do know that SK has a great coach and he is doing everything possible to get these kids to the next level.

I really don't care I post true facts I don't make stuff up. I was at a Conner game and they announced Drew Barker as Mr. Football now how did that work out?

Didn't say that. I said there's different levels of recruiting. You know how many kids get letters and invites to watch a practice? Your issue IMO (and many others) is that you get on here and blow them up so much when it doesn't match up with reality. How many 2014 QBs don't have D1 offers in December and January? Yet you kept telling everyone "D1."

 

It doesn't match up with reality which only sets the kid up.

 

Do I think you're intentionally hurting the kid? Heck no. It comes from your heart which I can appreciate. My point is that you can't see the forest for the trees due to your passion for SK. Back off and see what everyone else (especially those that make the decisions) sees.

See this is your issue. You've got such an obsession for Drew Barker that you can't see straight. I was at that game as well. They never once said Drew Barker was Mr Football.

We agree completely on this. He's got talent. He'll have kids sign next year as well. The TE will have some nice options. Just keep it in perspective and let it work itself out.

I'm not ripping on you and if it came across that way I apologize. What I was saying is try not to put all that added pressure on these kids. BK had a hell of a career and he is being honored with all his hard work by getting to play at the next level.

 

Everytime some kid got some recognition, there would be you to try and diminish their accomplishments by tossing a SK player in the conversation and claiming they are better than whoever was being talked about. You mean good, but it doesn't always have to be about SK. The SK players get recognized and well deserved etc. but when they are always said to be better than whoever is being talked about, well it adds unwarranted expectations on them and when what is said about them doesn't pan out it has led to some being embarrassed about what happened. That is all I'm saying.

This thread needs to remain about the topic, not about calling out individual posters. The discussion of what constitutes a D1 recruit is valid, so please do not venture into restricted territory.
