January 19, 201412 yr I don't know if there has been a post on this , but I heard from someone in the know back in KY that there is a bill pending to make this happen . This person also believes it will pass . I have no details on the bill, does anyone else ? I'm all for it , I'd just be shocked because this news came out of nowhere to me.
January 19, 201412 yr I would think that the politicians would be too afraid of their positions to push this through. I could see it being put on the ballot, but I don't think Frankfort would just unilaterally do this. My guess would be that if this was passed at Frankfort level without a referendum that nearly every state Representative that voted for it would be voted out the next election cycle.

From what I can tell its all hush hush. Again person I heard this from is 100% reliable I just can't verify with a second source.
January 19, 201412 yr Author This is the closest thing I could find. Committee in Frankfort discussing medical marijuana in Kentucky
January 19, 201412 yr Hasn't the whole Medical Marijuana thing turned out to be a joke with doctors in those states writing scripts for just about anyone for any reason?
January 19, 201412 yr Author Hasn't the whole Medical Marijuana thing turned out to be a joke with doctors in those states writing scripts for just about anyone for any reason? It's a sham no doubt in most states. But I haven't seen the specifics in this bill. Some are more strict than others. Its a way for states to cut the cost of enforcing what a lot of law enforcement see as a minor crime. While still appeasing social conservatives by not making it 100% legal. If it doesn't happen now , it's not a question of if but when. The trend across the country says it will happen.

I don't know if allowing "Medical" marijuana would lighten the load on police any at all. It would seem there would be even more people embolden to break the law since some forms are legal. BTW there are pills made from the extract of the plant that will do the same thing to dull the pain and help with nausea without having to legalize marijuana. January 19, 201412 yr I never understood why Libertarians supported legalizing marijuana as much as they do. How much government intervention and levels of bureaucracy would legalizing and taxing marijuana add? Not even thinking about the additional IRS/Tax collection, regulations and government audits. I support a SMALLER Government not making it bigger and giving it a new tax base.
January 19, 201412 yr Author I didn't really start thread to debate pro vs con . I know its been debated to death on here. Just wanted to see if anyone else had heard.

Plus libertarians aren't for no government we are for small government and when possible we prefer state and local governments regulate . This is a state by state issue. We are already taxed on income and sale of product. This doesn't create a new tax just a new product using the already existing tax law. I would much rather be taxed on a product than outlawed from using it . There is a huge degree of difference . Edited January 19, 201412 yr by LIPTON BASH
January 19, 201412 yr I understand what your saying and I won't start ANOTHER debate on the merits of it being legal...:lol2: I do think there are sometimes that taxing something and making it legal just doesn't make sense.
January 19, 201412 yr I personally am against it, but I will add that it would be a huge bump in the economy seeing how the states biggest cash crop is marijuana.

I think there is a huge difference in saying Libertarians are against bigger govt and the reality of that. Obama has done nothing but create a bigger govt since he's been in office and the liberals are behind him. So to say they aren't is just political speak because the fact is quite different.
January 19, 201412 yr They just need to legalize it completely and tax the living daylights out of it... I'm tired of hearing about it. Maybe potheads will shut up finally if it's legalized.
