Pre-FEB 15th Workouts

Featured Replies

What's everyone doing?

I know HHS got their 1st workout in yesterday despite school not being in session. TUE, THU & SAT from here until 2.15 when I expect it to go to MON - SAT (and some SUN if the weather is nice and they can get outside on those days.)

Looking forward to baseball with all this cold weather.

What type of workouts are you referring to? If you are talking weights and conditioning, many schools have been doing this for months.

If you are talking a baseball workout (i.e. like a practice) you are bordering on violating KHSAA Bylaw 23.

you are if you call it that. "Practice" suggests team. If you have open field, or OTA, you're safe within the rules. You can even scrimmage another school, as long as no school equipment or facility is used and no school logos are worn.

If more than 5 returning players are present, a coach is present and any instruction takes place, it can be in violation.

Let's assume for purposes of this thread that the workouts being conducted by whatever team are KHSAA-compliant.

So who else is rolling already?

As I said previously there are many schools doing weights and conditioning (DH, RHS, NCC, Lloyd, among others).

Other than that, I don't think there is any other type of workout going on.

As long as it's not mandatory, as long as there are no penalties for missing, and as long as no sport-specific instruction is being given by the coaching staff you can do normal baseball activities such as BP, throwing, pitching, infield. It also cannot be designated as part of the "tryout." No school-provided gear may be used ie if a catcher wants to catch he has to use his own gear.

See Bylaw 23 case 14. http://khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/20132014/bylaw23.pdf

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say JB has it under control and knows what he is doing.

Just sayin!
