I read a lot of them, when I can get them sent to me.

I am not criticizing any of the previews that are out there.

 

I am just suggestion everyone who can check out their preview.

 

The sports editor goes out of his way each year to send me a free copy and only ask me to let him no how it compares to others I read.

What newspaper do you write for?

Jim, I'd love to know what paper you write for also.

This is an interesting topic and thank you newarkcatholicfan for bringing it up. I spent a couple years living in South Carolina and they had a preview every year n the paper there, in the Charlseton area back then. I can't remember the paper that did it, but it was a big Sunday seperate pull out that had all the schools in the area and a nice article on each school, top returning players, new players to look for and their prior seasons stats etc. It was really well done, was full of interviews from each coach etc. Really well done. The thing that stuck out to me was every team had equal time in the paper.

 

Unfortunatley in this area that isn't the case. I don't want to embarrass anyone if they work for this paper here, but the Unon Recorder, or Boone County Recorder, I'd love to talk in private about concerns many people in this area have when it comes to the coverage they provide.

I like the "directions to the field" idea. Shouldn't be that difficult to include.

I don't know who has the responsibility for the local ppaper I am refering to. I believe it is a staff writer for the paper.

To me the best previews have at least the rosters with height and weight, with positions played along with the schedule and last years results.

 

I love how the Ashland Kentucky paper(Which is always very, very good) includes overall results against the opponent for the current season.

I think the (Ashland) Independent does a great job. I know you like it as well. They always cover every team in the region with team pictures, rosters, last year results, upcoming schedule and a two or three page outlook for each team. They also have several stories about area football in general. It's something that I look forward to every August.
