Nacarius Fant and his fellow senior class is nearing their storybook career. Nacarius remains near the top of ALL SENIOR RECEIVERS in the nation in a few categories, truly amazing. It looks like the game that the Purples missed earlier in the year is going to mess with his numbers a little bit. None the less, what an amazing career he has had. With two possible games remaining on the Purples schedule Nacarius would need 714 yards receiving to be the all-time leading receiver in Kentucky - no way that happens. It is also unlikely for him to get 469 yards (not probable, but possible) for the 2nd all time receiving yardage man. However, he should move into third place (passing Trinity super-stud James Quick) with 170 yards.

 

I know that he wants the third ring more so than the yards, but kudos to his efforts over the past four years. I know he credits his lineman and especially his two QB's in Scooter and Devin (two Ivy League kids!) but he still had to get open and make the catch.

 

For you prep fans across the state, every team has their "special" player. No words to describe what kind of plays and catches this kid has made over the past few years in Purple Land. Until you see him, it is actually hard to put into words what amazing hands this teenage kid has.

 

Regardless if they give him the Mr. Football trophy or not (they should) what a joy it has been to see Nacarius doing his thing in BG.

I have seen him play since middle school. A special player for sure.

As a Purple fan, the thing I like most about Fant is that he never seems to let himself be shut-out in big games. He wants the ball. At the HS level, it is clearly not a guarantee that a WR will get to make plays in a game especially against a good defense. But as Hellbird has stated before he just goes up in an area and catches it. Time will seal the deal on Mr. Fant as the best WR BG has ever had.

I have enjoyed every second of the games I have been fortunate enough to see him play in. Hopefully he goes out in style with his third consecutive ring.

I was surprised to see Quicks name brought up in a BG thread. Obviously both are tremendous players and receive the accolades that they have garnered. Comparing the numbers is a risky business due to the variables that determine those numbers. Obviously during the years that Quick played for T, they were playing lots of top teams from Ohio as well as Indiana. Arguably one of the toughest schedules in the country, but that is just one of the variables. I have my choice on who the better player is/was, but it is not based AT ALL on their numbers.

 

In closing I wish the best for both Quick and Fant and can say that both of them represent/represented KY high school football in a positive way. Good luck down the road on their football journey. Both are fine young men. I'm not trying to take anything away from either player!!

 

When you think numbers, think about the circumstances when that kid kicked that 62 yard field goal.(Again not taking anything from that "special player either!!)
