I made mention of this in another thread but felt it was due its own thread.

Michael Romes of Beechwood surpassed the 1000 pt mark against Holy Cross recently. What's impressive about this accomplishment is that he did it in less than 2 years. He never played in a varsity game until his JR year.

Before your autopilot response of "competition" comes into play, remember he put up 25 or so against South Laurel and had a big game against Holmes. Also, factor in that in many of these games against the lower level teams, he is not playing the entire game due to the margin of victory.

Congrats to Michael Romes.

I am glad Beechwood has him, but I bet CCH would love to have another scorer like him, he would make them almost dominant in the 9th.

Unfortunately, we'll never know.

Regardless, you have to be happy for the young man's success.

Absolutley, I have known him since he was very young and his dad coached my brother. As hard as they worked its all payed off.

There are many local players that have benefited from the tutelage of Bob Romes.

He is a great guy and a heck of a coach and Beechwood had him to help but lost that opportunity.

Congrats to ANYONE who knocks down 1000 against ANYONE.

Awesome.

This goes to show that hard work and persistence does pay off.

Congrats to Michael and the Romes family. A great accomplishment, on any level.

Congratulations to Michael Jordan Romes. He is a very talented player that works very hard on the court at all times.

Excellent player..Congratulations Michael Romes

Why didn't he play varsity ball until his JR. year??

He was at Covington Catholic for his first 2 seasons (freshman & sophomore years) and then transferred to Beechwood for his last two, where he instantly became BW's "go to guy".

^reason for transfer?

Lack of opportunity.
