First of all, you are wrong again. They are required to make a certain number of estimates within a certain range in order to pass.

 

And I think it depends on what state you are in but I've read stories in the past where courts have ruled it is admissible and that a radar isn't even necessary. Regardless, it's still a part of the radar training. I'd think a former "cop" would know that.

 

With that said, no you don't have to be a police officer to be able to estimate speeds. But I think its absurd to think someone who has probably never been trained would know how fast, just by looking at a police cruiser with lights and sirens on driving by at night.

I hate to disagree with you but since I haven't had the "Formal training" to teach me to estimate wheen a car is going 47 in a 25 I would still bet anything you like that I could tell when a vehicle is traveling over 20 mph's the speedlimit the majority of the time.

 

I think it's absurd top think only someone "Trained" can tell when a vehicle is speeding or not.

 

Go back through all my posts in threads involving police and you will see that I have backed the police just about 99% of the time. So much so that I've been called biased and a cop lover etc.

 

I support ones I feel are in the right, this guy, even though it may be unfair to do so, but just feels guilty to me. Everytime his job performance is brought into question his dash camera suddenly malfunctions etc. and he already has been found at fault in 5 prior accidents. Sorry halfback, but I would put more weight into eyewitnesses who have nothing to gain than a officer with a history of wrongdoing.

I have never said this officer was right or wrong, because I don't know. My issue with your comments is you are too quick to make this all his fault. I'm not sold that it is yet. It's definitely a possibility, but I'm not ready say he should be charged like you are.

 

There are ways to tell almost exactly how fast he was going. Hopefully they get that information.

 

If it's proven throughout an investigation that he was wrong and what he did wrong was criminal, by all means, charge him. But I'm not going to rush to judgement with only parts of the story.

 

As for your comment about his history of wrongdoing, what are you talking about? The at fault crashes? I agree that the camera shutting off in two different incidents is odd. I'm not a tech guy so I'm not sure what that's all about but I hope they would look into that. With that said I believe he was cleared in the shooting.
