Question about turkeys

Featured Replies

If I am not mistaking, coyotes are like ferral pigs in KY in that there are pretty much no rules in hunting them? No license needed, not season to hunt them, can hunt them at night, etc.. Is that correct?

I believe you must be a legal hunter to hunt them. I know you use to couldn't hunt them at night during deer season but not sure about now.

I have heard that if coyotes have migrated on or near your land they can wipe out a turkey population.

Could be but not in my experience. The land I talked about leasing in my earlier post has more coyotes then he could kill and like I said it still has turkeys.

There is a year round hunting season for coyotes and also a trapping season. You would need a license for that.

I think that landowners can kill "problem" coyotes on their own land who are aggressive towards humans or animals without having a hunting license.

No chance.

I have studied this goofy species more than any other I've hunted. Kinda turned into a turkey geek. I fell in love with it, nearly stopped fishing during the best time of the fishing season because of that frankly. I've studied density/predation grids, expansion characteristics, the effect of urban sprawl and with all of that, I can tell you without a doubt, the best answer in this thread is the first one you got:

Watusi

The acorns fell.

I will add this disclaimer, I have hunted turkeys out west a couple of times, and you can't tell a rancher that his turkeys don't get beat up by bobcats, mountain lion, or coyotes, so who am I to argue with them.

BTW. I just saw my earlier thread....I know... herd (not heard). And I meant lost, not lot. Sorry....we have computer issues here, and often I am typing away, but the actual result doesn't show up right away, and I don't catch that I made a typo.

Otherwise...thanks for all the feedback from everyone.

Just as I started this thread, what do I see this weekend??? Three turkeys returned and cut across my field only about 30 yards from my house.
