Boyle wins a defensive struggle to take the district title in 4A-5. The Rebels had the ball only twice in the first half and led 7-0, then scored again with under 4 minutes left. The Titans contained Boyle's running game but couldn't take advantage of their chances on offense.

 

Boyle is first, Mercer is third in their district. Boyle will host Clay County and Mercer visits Knox Central for first-round playoff games, both for the second year in a row.

Very impressed with Mercer's defense! They played a great game against Boyle and Pardue had his team ready. Boyle's defense pitches the shut out for the district title and home field through out the playoffs. Looks like a date with Clay County for the first round.

 

I believe the Region plays out like this:

Clay County(4) at Boyle (1)

Mercer County(3) at Knox Central (2)

Marion County (4) @ Russell County (1)

Rockcastle County (3) @ Lexington Catholic (2)

Young teams sometimes have letdowns, but Boyles D is good. Mercer did not even threaten to score. However, going into the playoffs our O line has got to get on top of their game. Our pass D has improved greatly. No one in the Spring believed Boyle would go undefeateded.

If Boyle wasn't so young I would worry more about this game. But the rivalry and the speed Mercer has, which is more than anyone else Boyle will face in the playoffs, was a good test. Mercer is a better than avg team, but they did not threaten to score once. Also our pass d has improved the way we played against lex cath and mercer, we look good. We also faced the best and fastest receiver we will see all year in Cox, from Anderson. Lex Cath Qb is the highest rated qb according to college scouts on 4a. So here we go we have everybody coming to our house for the playoffs with a coaching staff that is second to none. Another thing is that our sophmore qb never looked rattled at all last night, and he is as fast as anyone one the field, he will have to run more in a couple of games. Hoskins has to get healthy because he is as hard as anybody i have seen to bring down. I hope we have some screen passes for Hoskins and Burke for the post season, love to see a corner matched up with either one of them out in the flats.

What is wrong with Hoskins? Just dinged up or did he get hurt in the game?

Thigh i heard. But should be able to take next 2 weeks and be well with Whitley and Clay.

Aiden has been nursing the thigh injury for a while. Should be ready for heavy duty in the play offs. He had a very nice run on Friday carrying 3 defenders on his back for a nice gain. This was a game that Boyle needed at the end of the season. It looked that Mercer was really fired up, playing at home and maybe Boyle was a little flat, but still took care of business. Playoffs should be interesting after 1st round.
