Bellevue/Dayton/Newport combining schools??

Actually, as BM sort of stated, almost none of the last statement is true. Dayton had a fiscal audit due to reports of misappropriation by one individual, Newport has a very low rating on K-Prep scores and Bellevue's K-Prep scores suffered this past year. NONE of those things involves state intervention or "assistance" in any form.

 

Also, some of you are showing your stereotypical beliefs. I'll bet most of you couldn't give accurate "demographic" data on each of the schools if you had to. Race? Really? Is that an issue for predominantly white Ryle, or Beechwood, or Highlands, or is that only for schools with lower socio-economic populations? Gimme a break.

 

While I will agree that merging the schools would make sense academically and ultimately athletically (with athletics being absolutely NO reason for making such a move), it won't happen anytime soon. And no, it's not about egos, it's about the communities NOT wanting to relinquish their local school. You see, before anything can happen via the Boards, etc., the local voters have to approve dissolution of their local school district. That my friends, "ain't a gonna happen."

This is not true. KRS 160.040 clearly states it is the local boards that determine this. The local voters elect school board members but have nothing to do with any merging or dissloution other than that. It is complicated and hardly ever happens because of the community passion with their local district. I don't think it will either.
