September 19, 201312 yr Author The leading candidates IMO are McCutcheon, Goldschmidt and Freeman. I'd probably agree with that. I think if voters just look at the numbers, then Goldschmidt might have the edge. If they take into consideration how the team faired, then McCutcheon and Freeman can edge him out. But, for what the Pirates have been able to do this year (break that long streak of losing seasons, potentially make the playoffs)...I think there might be more "notice" of the Pittsburgh games than Atlanta's. But, again, if Bruce could remain hot over the final 10 days of the season, and somehow the Reds catch the Cardinals...I think that might propel him over them.

He hit .436 with a .467 OBP in June. 7 HR & 16 RBI's in his first 26 games. Hanley also deserves a lot of credit - he had a great June (in only 22 games): .375 AVG, .414 OBP, 5 HR, 17 RBI

Puig was also getting the hype before he ever had a major league AB.

Ramirez returned from injury right around the same time Puig joined them. The 80 game stretch that Hanley has played in gives the Dodgers the best record in baseball by far over any 80 game stretch all season. I was going to mention that Hanley was every bit as responsible for the Dodgers run. They added two players to the top of their order that have produced at an MVP level since then. I don't think one would have been made quite that much of an impact.

Bruce's first 5 games were in May '08. In those 5 games, he went 11 for 19. .579 AVG, .680 OBP, 1 HR, 4 RBI and 5 BB's. He also stole 2 bases. In June, he batted .223 with an OBP of .274; 3 HR, 11 RBI, and 32 K's in 103 AB's. Not quite as impressive as Puig...
