Here is my question. How come hhs is down 21 -0 before they can get off the bus barely at Trinity every year in a scrimmage and final score is usually 48-20. And that is some kind of moral victory. But J Hardin plays within a td o hhs and there considered to not have been in the game. I thought the game wasn't over until the end of the 4th qtr

 

Seems like many are calling it a moral victory for JH so I'm not understanding the question.

I agree playing smash mouth football does help against Highlands again i say helps but if your not Trinity, St. X or Bowling Green you better play a perfect game and thats still might not be enough. John Hardin had the ball for 33 of the 48 minutes and still lost by 7 and the game really wasnt that close. Being physical is huge in football period but overall talent will prevail in the end. Elder will have both and that will be a big problem for the birds.

 

I agree here. They only won by 7, However, JH scored with under a minute to go to even get that close and HHS fumbled twice inside the redzone. (once on the 13 and once on the 4) ...as they were cruising in for scores. So yes, the final score was closer than normal, but in reality, it wasn't. Nothing against JH. Very good team and very respected, but just saying the score made it seem closer.

Here is something to think about. John Hardin gave Highlands a game because they play the kind of football Highlands does not. Highlands is a finesse team and they are good at it! But smash mouth football is a little different when you have the attitude and horses to do it. My point is this may be an advantage for teams that are strong and like to hit, possibly teams like Johnson Central and Boyle. Over the years the teams that have had some success against Highlands are the hard hitting teams like Bell Co. And Boyle. Just food for thought.

 

I would have to say you haven't seen HHS play much if you think you can "smash mouth" them. They are big kids (for a small school) and they have a couple kids that will remove your head from your body if you're not careful!! They hit! Yes, they are finesse and a fine tuned machine on offense, but that doesn't mean they don't want physical play. Watch their starting tailback play and tell me they are finesse. He looks for contact most of the time. All their backs do.

Recent history does not agree with Highlands beating X or T...

 

If it's not this year, no one cares. Just about completely different teams about every year in high school.

Not sure where anyone from HHS says its a moral victory. We want to beat them anytime we play them! Also, if someone did say that in the past two years, then I may agree with them to a point. You are talking about a top team in the country!!!! Not just another KY team.

 

And your comparison to even take it further...if someone did say that...you are comparing HHS (4A) to playing T (6A). Now you're saying that's the same as a JH (a top 5A school) playing HHS (a top 4A school)? Not sure where you were going with that one.

Not to change the subject here, but do you really think St. X could beat Highlands. I think from what I saw Saturday Highlands would beat them by at least 2 TDs.

RCC9, You are correct, I am a John Hardin fan. My daughter plays for the volleyball team. The football players all go to the games and I make it a point to talk to them everytime I see them. I only see Bowling Green once a year the last two years in our playoff games so for me to say I know a great deal about them would not be correct. However, I do know that most of the players from last year's team are back this year and they are very good and very fast. If I had to pick who I think would win I would probably go Highlands right now, because their offense was a machine and I have never seen a team's offense score almost at will on John Hardin's defense. That being said, Bowling Green has at least 3 players that I know are faster than any kid Highlands has on their team. One of them obviously is the Fant kid. Their other wide receiver is very fast and their running back is very fast. I hope we get to see them later this year and I can give you an unbiased opinion then but right now I am just making a guess. Regardless it would be a very close game and the team with the ball last would probably win the game.
