This Friday, the Shamrocks of Trinity travel to Lawrence Central. The Bears are in Indiana’s 32-team 6A class. Lawrence Central defeated North Central 34-31 last Friday. The Bears held on after leading 27-10 after three quarters. Lawrence Central (2-0) is the top ranked team in Indiana’s 6A division. Their first game was a 49-3 thrashing of Lawrence North. The Bears are the defending 5A state champions (the big school division in 2012). They are lead by senior QB Tyler Redfern. He completed 11 of 23 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns. North Central intercepted him once. Wilson’s favorite target was Juanyel Holmes, another senior, who had 5 receptions for 73 yards. The Bears rushed 33 times for 180 yards. Senior Mark Wilson was the leading rusher with 129 yards on 14 carries. Wilson scored one rushing TD and Redfern ran for two scores.

Trinity evened their record at 1-1 with the victory at Carmel, Indiana. Special teams hurt Trinity by allowing a kickoff return for a touchdown, and muffing a punt, which put Carmel deep into Trinity territory. The Greyhounds also returned an interception inside the five and quickly converted this into a touchdown and keeping the game close. Despite the score, the defense played much better as a cohesive unit this week. The offense proved to be too potent for Carmel to stop for the majority of the game. Donald Brooks continued his strong running effort, gaining 103 yards and two touchdowns. Reggie Bonnafon passed for 283 yards and two touchdowns according to MaxPreps.

The first meeting between these schools appears to have the makings of another close game. The Bears will run a balanced offensive attack. Trinity will continue adjusting their defense as needed and rely on the offensive fire-power shown the first two games. The kickoff is set for 7PM at Lawrence Central.

I believe Trinity's offense will continue to put up nice numbers and the defense will stop the Bears just enough for a 35-21 Shamrock victory.

I hope you are right. Go Rocks!

BTW: The 4 teams that dropped Trinity from their scheules are 6-0 this season. Elder and Cin. St. Xavier are each 1-0. Montgomery Bell Academy and Brentwood Academy are both 2-0 with relatively easy wins. 14 points is the smallest margin of victory for the Tennessee schools.

One more tidbit: A rare Freshmen/JV doubleheader will be played at Marshall Stadium this Saturday. Lawrence Central agreed to this arrangement as there will be no return date for the varsity in 2014. The Frosh kick off at 10:30AM.

Why did Cincy X drop us? Those were some good games.

Their "official" excuse involved travel costs. So they re-signed with Louisville St X and they picked up Brentwood Academy of Nashville, TN. My opinion is they did not like the possibility of losing to Trinity more often than not. Trinity travelled well to Cincinnati (fan base followed the team). The financial story as a rason to "drop" the Rocks simply doesn't ring true. This topic was discussed heavily last winter after the season.

Cincinnati St.X is very good this year. I think they are much better than they have been the last couple years. If they were going to beat Trinity this year was probably the year..JMO

I believe the losses to Trinity count against X in Ohio standings. Just playing the odds. Rocks are starting to click...this team may ultimately be comparable in lots of ways to the '02 Trinity team.

With the new 7 class system in Ohio, it is easier for the Bombers and friends to make the playoffs. I am hoping the new Trinity AD will sweeten the pot to get the Bombers back on the schedule.

Trinity is shy two games for 2014.

Do you know whether Triity has made any personnel changes since the fist game versus Ensworth?

Sure wish we could get Highlands, but I guess it just won't happen.

Trinity 31-21.

None that I know of. DBs are the same. Rotating same 8 defensive linemen. LBs are the same. No changes on offense. No injuries to report.
