NCC 75 Mayfield 69 (2OT)

Of course you have to foul at the end if you are behind, but not earlier in the game. Surely most of these fouls were earlier in the game; either way, that is a big discrepancy in FT's. Thank goodness they shot so bad at the line or it would not have been close.

Why not foul earlier? Other than you can't believe a team could be that bad at the line.

NCC made exactly one foul shot in the first half. 1 for 13. While shooting 4 of 8 from 3 land. Mayfield was 2 of 3 at the line.

NCC got 2 points from Non-starters. Mayfield got 3.

NCC got up by nine twice in the fourth quarter but couldn't make a foul shot (including an air ball). At one point they were 5 of 22, then 7 of 25 and then 9 of 34 and then rallied to be 13 of 40 and 19 of 48.

I agree, if they don't have their legs, the free throws could get worse! But then again, how can you do worse than 20 of 50?

20 for 50 was the high point of the night. Had to rally from 1 of 13 and 9 of 34.

I see what you are saying now. I didn't get to listen to the game so I didn't know that they shot that bad from the line early in the game. I guess you are saying that Mayfield could use the "Hack a Shaq" philosophy since they were missing so many FT's. I still can't imagine doing that, but oh well.

NCC's big man was 5 of 19 at the line including making the last two when there was only seconds left. Meanwhile he was 9 of 15 from the field.

Ok, so it actually was like a "Hack a Shaq" situation. That is the only way I can see it being smart to purposely foul. Great effort cards! I still think about when I played for Mayfield in the first ever All A Classic State Tourney (in Memorial Coloseum) and it was awesome. I am glad these players got a chance to experience it.

Who is NCC's big man?

Actually down by 9 you don't have much of a choice other than to foul but what surprised me was in the OT and double OT NCC hit a lot of threes. If I was Mayfield I wouldn't have let them shoot from there. Just leave the lane open and take my chances on a miss or just foul them before a lay-up. Maybe Mayfield just couldn't believe they were that bad but the same thing happened several times this year. Big time at Scott and at Boone County when a 10 point lead went bye-bye on missed foul shots and Boone Co missed a three to tie it.

NCC foul shots by quarter:

1: 1 for 11

2: 0 for 2

3: 4 for 6

4: 4 for 15

OT 1: 4 for 6

OT 2: 7 for 10

^Amazing... they finally pull out the W when they start to hit free throws...
