September 14, 201313 yr Author ^^^This explains it all^^^ The album garnered backlash from a portion of the band's fan base because of a shift in tone from the group's previous efforts (Load features a bluesier sound than the band's previous outings). According to drummer Lars Ulrich: "This album and what we're doing with it – that, to me, is what Metallica are all about: exploring different things. The minute you stop exploring, then just sit down and fxxxooo die."

Thankfully, Pantera flew the flag high.

Saw them on this tour at what is now US Bank Arena in Cincy, with Corrosion of Conformity opening. COC blew them away. Metallica seemed to be a "shell" of their former selves. I was at that same show,but it was in freedom hall...I agree about COC but unfortunately some so called Metallica fans were booing Corrosion...Some folks have no clue.
