Highlands was without True, Houliston, and Hoge.

 

I really liked Buten (sp?), little pg that didn't play last year due to an injury, as well as the lefty shooter that they had. Can't remember his name but he is very dark complected (white kid), as well as #25 for the Birds. Again can't remember his name either.

 

Coach L played a lot of kids and I love how intense he is. He is constantly teaching as well. He would call a timeout after a Highlands basket, just to use it as a teaching point about what they did well.

 

Overall, I think Highlands will be a top 10 team this year. They will battle Newport to get in the region, since the 36th is seeded now.

 

Boone looked very good, considering they didn't have big man McDonald. I feel very good about my pick on them being my #5 team in NKY in my preseason rankings. They play good defense and are a tough, physical team. They will go 8 deep with qaulity talent.

 

Ordu looked good around the rim and they have a 6'5 kid who played JV last year that will be a HUGE asset off the bench because of his length. Mayberry looks to have grown some and gotten bigger muscle wise. He will be tough for opposing PG's to handle at both ends. Stanley was Stanley. A little timid at times, but when he is aggressive, very good.

 

Holmes is going to be very good defensively. Housely, Bolden, McClendon, and Herndon out on the perimeter is going to frustrate teams. When they press and play uptempo, they are extremely fun to watch and tough to stop. Glover looked very good for the Dogs, hitting 9 or 10 3's combined in the two games I watched. Also threw in a break away two hand dunk. Housely also showed a nice touch from outside. Bolden didn't have his best day but obviously the kid can play. McClendon is going to thrive in Holmes' system. He is just so fast with the ball and when Housely and Glover are hitting from outside, he has open lanes to blow by his defender. Probably the quickest player on Holmes team...Bolden included.

 

I don't take much from summer ball, but I was definetly pleased with what I saw from every team. 9th region basketball should be a lot of fun to watch this year.
